Resident Evil 9: Requiem

Genres: Survival Horror

What is Resident Evil 9: Requiem?

Resident Evil Requiem is the ninth main entry in Capcom’s long-running survival horror series, and it picks up the wider storyline after Resident Evil Village (2021). This time, the game introduces a brand-new lead character - FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft - while also bringing back series favourite Leon S. Kennedy. The story ties back to the aftermath of Raccoon City and the lingering shadow of Umbrella, placing it firmly within the core timeline rather than being a side story.

You play as both Grace and Leon, with the game switching between them across the campaign. Grace’s sections lean heavily into classic survival horror - limited resources, careful movement, and a constant sense of danger. She is pursued by a relentless monster throughout the game, forcing you to sneak, hide under objects, and even throw bottles to create distractions. A lighter can help you see in the dark, but it also risks giving away your position. Grace is not a trained combat specialist, and that vulnerability shapes how her chapters play out.

Leon’s chapters are a different story. His missions are more action-driven, giving players access to firearms and melee options. He carries a hatchet that can be used to parry attacks, though it has limited durability, and he can even pick up enemy weapons mid-fight. The contrast between Grace’s tense survival gameplay and Leon’s more aggressive combat creates two distinct styles within the same narrative.

Requiem also lets players switch between first-person and third-person perspectives at any time. By default, Grace’s sections are presented in first-person to emphasise tension and immersion, while Leon’s default to third-person to suit the heavier combat focus. It is the first mainline Resident Evil built exclusively for current-generation hardware, using Capcom’s RE Engine with features like ray tracing and, on PC, full path traced lighting.

The story centres on Grace investigating a series of strange deaths at the condemned Wrenwood Hotel - the same place where her mother died years earlier. Meanwhile, Leon is tracking leads connected to surviving Raccoon City victims, bringing him into conflict with former Umbrella scientist Victor Gideon. Resident Evil Requiem launches on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows, and Nintendo Switch 2, marking the series’ 30th anniversary and a return to its overarching Raccoon City narrative.

“Resident Evil Perfected”

Resident Evil Requiem is terrifying, from the fantastic lighting to the monstrous creature that stalks you down the thin corridors. This small slice is enough to get us excited about the full release.
