Beyond the Veil

What we see is not what there is. Our minds cannot comprehend the universe in its terrifying complexity and enormity; if they did, we would all burst in flames, just like Semele did when Zeus revealed his true form to her.

The things we see, touch, smell are just an approximation, limited and simplified. Wise men and women across all lands and times knew this. This is what Plato meant when he spoke of his Cave. This is what sages from the Indus valley call “maya”. This is what St. Hildegard meant when she spoke of a dark fire veiled behind a dark membrane, the horror of storms and stones.

But what there truly is cannot be put in words, as they are just as limited as our senses. The Truth can only be glimpsed when both are rejected. But be warned, for this is not for the meek of heart. Those who hope to come before the loving God will instead scream for all of eternity, dissolved in the terror of Knowing.
