Weather can be a problem in games, where it is present, such as rain or snow affecting your movement, or clouding your vision. Thanks to a cover story by Game Informer, we have learned that weather will play a huge part in Grand Theft Auto VI, too. Considering Leonida is modeled after real-life Florida, the weather systems implemented in GTA VI will be designed to simulate the kind of weather you’ll see in that area. Of course, Florida is popularly known for its sunny skies and beautiful climate, but it’s also known for more… troublesome weather patterns.
Rockstar has confirmed that the weather system in GTA VI will be dynamic, meaning it will be changing on the fly and isn’t set in stone. As an example, you may be exploring one section of the map where it is sunny, but you might spot dark clouds off in the distance. Those dark clouds will be dropping a storm in another section of the map, meaning the weather won’t be global like in previous games. If you visit that area after it stops raining, you will see puddles and evidence that it rained. This is a pretty neat feature, although other than driving conditions, it’s not clear the ramifications on the actual gameplay.
Additionally, you will see tropical storms and even hurricanes during the game, but it wasn’t mentioned how often these will occur, nor if they will be a natural part of the game or just story events. Either way, it does sound like weather will be a more dynamic part of the game and not just set pieces. It will likely affect gameplay in some manner, especially when driving around in wet weather, as in previous games.
