From the extended look video that Rockstar put out, we know that there will be plenty of wildlife present in the game, but we’ve been left in the dark a bit as to what kinds exactly. The deep dive showed Jason petting a dog, which also had a button shown to Study said dog, meaning they were bringing back the same system from Red Dead Redemption 2. It’s not clear exactly how these animals will affect anything related to gameplay, but it’s not out of the question to see a trophy or achievement that requires you to study a certain amount.
Thanks to the recent cover story from Game Informer, though, we know a good ballpark as to the number of animal species that will be in the game. According to Rockstar, you will be able to find over 170 different species throughout Leonida, which not only includes land and air, but also sea. Some of these have appeared in a Rockstar game before, but there will be some that have never shown their proverbial faces in one prior to GTA VI. Some of these animals will actually be native to the area, like pelicans, flamingos, and the obvious alligators. However, there are also invasive species, like green iguanas, cane toads and even rhesus macaque monkeys.
Of course, if you’ve played Red Dead Redemption 1/2, then you know that you had regular animals, as well as rare and legendary ones. Those will be returning in GTA VI, although the identities of those harder-to-find creatures are not being disclosed. Rockstar has also planned to have animals show iridescence, bioluminescence, translucency, and feather types, so be prepared to be amazed by the creatures you find.
