By
Seren Morgan-Roberts

This page offers a guide on all of Mario’s Special Attacks in the Super Mario RPG remake. You’ll learn all you need to know about how to unlock special attacks, how much damage they do, and how to use them!

A quick guide on all of Mario’s Special Attacks and the differences between each Jump and Fireball special attack.

List of all Mario’s Special Attacks

As you can see below, there are only two “unique” attacks for Mario, but you will unlock more powerful versions of Jump and Fireball.

Special Attack Level Unlock Power Effects FP Cost
Jump Default 25 Jump on an enemy’s head. Hit “A” Joy-Con-ButtonA as you land to do more damage. 3FP
Fireball Lv. 3 20 Repeatedly hit “A” Joy-Con-ButtonA to fill the wheel in the timed period. The more you hit “A” the more damage you’ll do. 5 FP
Super Jump Lv. 6 45 Same as Jump but you can perform repeated jumps if you press “A” Joy-Con-ButtonA perfectly. 7 FP
Super Fireball Lv. 10 40 Same as Fireball but a more powerful version. 9 FP
Ultra Jump Lv. 14 65 Same as Super Jump but you jump on enemies randomly. 11 FP
Ultra Fireball Lv. 18 60 A Fireball attack that targets all enemies. 14 FP

Jump Special Attacks

Unless you purchase the Jump Shoes from the Mushroom Kingdom Item Shop, there are some enemies that are resistant to jump attacks. As you can probably guess "Spikey" iconSpikeys are an enemy that are resistant to jumps.

Jump attacks are great for dealing damage and you can even unlock some armors if you’re good at landing perfect jump attacks!

In fact, if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you can even unlock special armors from a "Chow" iconChow NPC in Monstro Town for landing consecutive jumps using the Super Jump ability. For 30 jumps, you’ll unlock the Attack Scarf and for 100 jumps (ouch!) you’ll get the Super Suit. In addition to getting good at landing those perfect jump attacks, you’ll also need to find an enemy that can withstand that many jumps. A jump-resistant enemy like a Spikey is a great option if you’re looking to complete these crazy jump challenges.

Fireball Attacks

The Fireball attacks are great for enemies that are weak to fire (use Thought Peak to discover weaknesses and resistances). And, as long as an enemy isn’t resistant to fire damage, this attack can also be a big hitter against enemies who aren’t weak to fire too. The quicker you button mash “A” Joy-Con-ButtonA the more of the wheel you can fill and the more damage it’ll do. So, for those of you experienced in hardcore button mashing, you’ll have a great time with the various Fireball Attacks.

The Ultra Fireball attack is great for dealing with multiple enemies!

If you’re in a fight with loads of enemies, Ultra Fireball can be a great solution (like Mallow’s Thunderbolt) for getting rid of them all in one hit.
