“First of all, be aware of your surroundings. Learn to notice things in the corner of your eye. Make sure you know exactly where your enemies are, as well as your allies – many warriors have fallen because their own friends became an unexpected obstacle.

I was once attacked by three Tatars at once. Our fight took us away from the main battle and we found ourselves dealing blows in the open field. I thought I was done for when I noticed a lone tree growing nearby. I hastily moved towards it, making sure that it was right behind my back. The Tatars tried to surround me, but I was able to defend myself until a few of my comrades noticed my predicament and rushed to the rescue.”
