Vault Key Fragment Locations - The Fadefields

There are a lot of optional things to do in Borderlands 4, such as finding Vault Key Fragments to open up a Vault and fight a challenging boss. These key fragments pretty hidden, but when you get close enough to one, a large circle will appear on your map, indicating a general area where you can search. To make things a little easier, too, you will have a “radar” appear on your game screen, with four little notches. As you get closer to the key fragment, the notches will fill up, basically telling you’re on the right track.

Vault Key Fragment #1

The first Vault Key Fragment on this page will be located towards the southwestern corner of Coastal Bonescape. Specifically, you’re looking for the Stillshore location, which is a small little village. When you first arrive there, you’ll have to contend with some enemies, so take them all out before you go searching for the Vault Key Fragment. Once the coast is clear, locate the one building on the southwestern side of the village. There is a little porch on the side of the house that isn’t entirely hidden, but it can be a little hard to find. The Vault Key Fragment is on that porch, sitting on top of a crate.

(1 of 5) You’re only given a general area to search for each Vault Key Fragment.

Vault Key Fragment #2

The second Key Fragment is found in The Howl sub-region, which is north of Coastal Bonescape. You will naturally visit this during one of the early main story missions, where you visit The Launchpad, a faction town. Just north of the town is an active checkpoint, right along the road, and that’s a great starting point. From that checkpoint, go east a little bit and approach the tall mountain there from the northern side.

There will be a grapple point here, so shoot yourself up to the cliff, then you can jump to the next tier to find a little cave. Go inside the cave and you will see the Vault Key Fragment will be in there, right out in the open.

(1 of 3) The second Key Fragment is just northeast of The Launchpad faction town.

Vault Key Fragment #3

The final Key Fragment is in the Idolator’s Noose area, on the eastern side of The Fadefields. Look for the Rosemary’s Reserve location, which you will have to clear out first of enemies before you can get a good look around there. Once it is open, look right by the Propaganda Speaker, to find a crate cover you can pull with your grapple. This will grant you access to a small area underneath the main portion of the location, where you can find a red chest, as well as the Vault Key Fragment.

Once you have found all three Vault Key Fragments, you will finally be able to go after the actual Vault. Similar to the Key Fragments, a circle will appear showing you the general location of the Vault. It’s up to you to use the radar given to you to find the actual Vault. When you get close enough, a pedestal will appear out of the ground, which is where you put the key pieces in to open the Vault.

(1 of 3) The third Key Fragment’s at Rosemary’s Reserve.

Arch of Inceptus Location

If you saved the Key Fragment at Rosemary’s Reserve for last, then the Vault will be found just southeast of it. From where the vault symbol is located in the middle of the search circle, there will be a large plateau just north of it. That’s your goal, so find a way to get to the top, using your radar as a guide. As mentioned above, a pedestal for which you place your key fragments will appear out of the ground upon getting close enough. Interact with it to place the keys, which will construct the gate and allow you to enter the vault.

(1 of 3) The Vault Entrance is on the big plateau just southeast of Rosemary’s Reserve.

Each vault will consist of you going through waves of enemies before you get to the boss. For more information, check out the Primordial Guardian Inceptus Boss Guide page for tips and tricks on that fight.
