In the middle of the map you’ll find a lake, at the center of which is an island housing the Water Ruins. Around this dungeon are lines of flotsam that block your ability to swim in various directions, impeding your ability to reach various caves to the northeast and northwest and a beach to the southwest. If only you could dive under these wooden barriers, you could expand your range of exploration… This page will cover how to find the Diving Manual in The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales.

Page Breakdown

Find the Diving Manual in the Water Ruins

The key to finding the Diving Manual happens to be the Water Ruins (Age of Reconstruction) in the middle of the lake. You should generally make a habit of exploring dungeons even when quests don’t lead you there directly, and the Diving Manual is a prime reason why - neither the main questline nor any side quest will lead you here, and you can comfortably beat the game without ever finding it. Granted, this is something of a one-off… aside from [another important item found in the Water Ruins], but that’s a topic for another page. Below we’ll cover how to get through this dungeon and obtain the Diving Manual.

(1 of 2) Hit an orb north of the entrance to drain the water,

Hit an orb north of the entrance to drain the water, (left), then jump on a pressure plate to open a gate. (right)

Get the Blue Water Ruins Key

Head north from the adventurer’s guidepost near the entrance and you’ll find yourself on a stone platform in a room otherwise full of water. Swim north to another stone platform to find an orb. Strike it and the water in the room will drain. Drop down to the east and make your way to the northeastern corner of the room to find a floor plate to stand on. Do so and a gate to the north will lower. Hit a nearby orb (now glowing red) to raise the water level so you can swim through the aforementioned gate.

(1 of 3) Make your way to another water orb and drain the water again,

Swim east through the room beyond the gate to reach a stone platform on the far side, then exit through a gate to the south and continue south into another room to find a stone platform with a blue orb in the southwestern corner. Hit the orb to lower the water, then drop down to the east and climb a ladder to reach an elevated stone platform. Climb it, go through the gate to the north and the gates will raise, trapping you in an impromptu combat trial. Defeat the three frogs, then climb another ladder to the northwest, go through a gate to the north, drop down to the west, and go down some stairs in the northeastern corner.

After descending the stairs you’ll find yourself in a large water-filled room. Swim to a stone ledge in the southeastern corner to find a chest, which contains the Blue Water Ruins Key. Once you have this you can fast travel to the adventurer’s guidepost near the entrance.

(1 of 3) Return to the entrance room and head northwest to find the blue key door,

Reach Frauki Capo

Now that you’re back in the entrance room, walk the northwestern corner of the room (drain the water again, if you must) and open the blue key door. In the room beyond, climb a ladder to reach a small platform to the north, jump to a larger platform to the east and hit a red orb to raise the water level, then swim to the western edge of the room where you’ll find another orb. Hit it to drain the water again, then exit to the south and in this room make your way west to find some more stairs leading down.

Now that you’re back in the Water Ruins - Sublevel One - albeit on the western side of the level - you’ve got a free shot to this dungeon’s boss. Swim south across some water, ,then when you reach a stone platform swim east to find yourself in a gated room. Try to exit to the east and the gates will raise, forcing you to deal with this dungeon’s boss, Frauki Capo.

(1 of 2) When Frauki Capo is spinning, perfect block him to stun him and leave him vulnerable to attack,

When Frauki Capo is spinning, perfect block him to stun him and leave him vulnerable to attack, (left), then claim the Diving Manual out of a big red chest. (right)

Punish the boss as much as you can at the start of the fight, after which he’ll start spinning. Try to intercept him with your shield, with perfect blocks being ideal, as it’ll knock him back, and if you perfect block him three times his spin-attack will end and you’ll be able to attack him some more. Later on in the fight he’ll start shooting out damage musical notes while he spins, which can also be deflected.

Conquer the boss, collect the magicite it drops, then exit to the east, swim across some water to the north and open a big red chest to obtain the Diving Manual. You can now dive any time you wish by holding the TRIANGLE button!
