After watching an introductory cut-scene, you’ll notice a group of very large birds, Loftwings, flying around in the sky. You’ll also watch an unidentified girl play a harp a bit before passing a note to her own Loftwing, who flies away.

Meanwhile, the main character, who we’ll identify by his default name of Link, in the midst of a nightmare. He is told of his supposed destiny before abruptly awakened.

Link will receive the letter from the mysterious girl from earlier, who just happens to be Zelda, the Knight Academy’s Headmaster’s daughter. It seems that the Wing Ceremony, a graduation exam of sorts, is today and Zelda wants to see you beforehand.

Knight Academy

You’ll then obtain control of Link. You are in your room within the Skyloft Knight Academy. Check the large cupboard to find a Blue Rupee (5 Rupees), then leave via the door to the first floor hallway. If you go towards the stairs, Pipit, another knight-to-be, will halt you.

Go down the hall in the other direction, still on the first floor. You’ll find Fledge in front of two barrels. Speak with and agree to help him. After this, pick up a barrel and carry it into the kitchen nearby, being sure to put the barrel down when your green stamina gauge is near empty. Once the barrel is near the old woman, speak with Fledge for a Red Rupee (20 Rupees). Go through the nearby double doors to exit the building.

Skyloft

(1 of 2) Skyloft is Link’s home, a picturesque village in the sky.

Outside, you’ll arrive at Skyloft, which is the main (and only) village in the game.

Anyhow, the gate to your right is locked, so in the other direction and you’ll be given a tutorial on locking-on and dashing/climbing/jumping. You’ll first target Instructor Horwell with the Z button, then you’ll dash towards and climb on the crates, then dash-jump across the gap.

Speak with Horwell and you’ll be asked to recover Mia, the Headmaster’s pet. Upon regaining control, dash towards the wall to grab onto the narrow outcropping, then move left until you can no more. Press A to fall off and go along this path to find some vines. Climb these vines to find the roof. Go to the nearby wooden crate and push it next to the wall.

(1 of 2) Swinging the Wiimote makes you move faster, but drains extra stamina.

Dash at it and the wall to be able to reach Mia. Pick her up and drop off the ledge behind the bell arch. Then approach Horwell to return Mia. If you’re playing the Switch version, you’ll be rewarded with a Red Rupee; otherwise, you’ll just get a figurative pat on the back.

After this, you’ll be told to find Zelda and meet it. See that unused Bird Statue nearby? Go towards it (and use it if desired), then continue toward the green bulbous plant. This is a Stamina Fruit and fully restores your Stamina Gauge when touched.

Continue along the path and up the wooden stairway, then continue towards the large Goddess Statue.

(1 of 2) This is Zelda, the game’s namesake.

Once you meet up with Zelda, a rather lengthy scene occurs. You’ll basically learn about the Loftwings. Zelda will try to get you to call your own, yet you literally cannot sense it (is it me, or is this sounding like Avatar?), and Zelda saves you from a supposedly-eternal fall to your death as your Loftwing won’t come. So … where is it?
