At Gamer Guides, transparency and consistency in how we review games has always been important to us. Over time, our library of reviews has grown significantly, and we felt it was the right moment to make our scoring system clearer, more visible, and easier to understand for everyone.

Today we’re introducing several updates to how review scores are presented across the site, including a brand-new Review Score Guidelines & Explanations page, a new Outstanding (95–100) category, and improved score visibility on both review articles and the Reviews overview page.

A Dedicated Review Score Guidelines Page

We’ve launched a new standalone page titled Gamer Guides Review Score Guidelines & Explanations.

This page serves as the definitive reference point for how we evaluate games and what each score bracket represents. It includes:

• Clear explanations for every score range
• Details on how Editor’s Choice works
• Examples of recent reviews for each bracket
• Consistent wording and criteria used across the site

This page is designed to be transparent, informative, and easy to reference whenever you want more context on how a score was determined.

New Top Tier: Outstanding (95–100)

We’ve also introduced a new highest score category: Outstanding (95–100).

This tier is reserved for exceptional releases that stand among the very best in their genre. These are landmark titles that deliver near-flawless execution, memorable experiences, and lasting appeal.

Visually, the Outstanding category is distinguished with a gold gradient style, helping it stand apart as the pinnacle of our scoring system.

This addition allows us to better highlight truly extraordinary games and adds more clarity at the top end of our scale.

“Score Info” Button Added to Review Pages

You’ll now see a “Score Info” button directly beneath the final score on individual review pages.

Clicking this button takes you straight to the full Review Score Guidelines page, making it easy to understand what the number means without needing to search elsewhere on the site.

This change ensures that score explanations are always just one click away for readers who want deeper context.

Updated Reviews Overview Page Info Panel

We’ve also refreshed the expandable Score Info panel on the Browse Reviews page.

The panel now includes:

• The new Outstanding (95–100) category
• Updated one-line descriptions for each score bracket
• Consistent colour styling across all tiers
• A direct link back to the full Review Score Guidelines page

This makes the Reviews overview page more informative while keeping the interface clean and uncluttered. You can quickly understand our scoring system at a glance, or dive deeper if you wish.

Drill Down by Score Category

For those who want to explore even further, each score bracket on the Review Score Guidelines page includes a “View More” link.

Clicking this allows you to see all titles we have awarded within that specific category. For example, selecting Outstanding (95–100) will display a full list of every game that has achieved our highest honour.

This feature provides additional transparency and also makes it easy to discover other top-rated titles you may have missed.
