As you explored the various dungeons in Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, you may have come across some purple barriers that were quite mysterious. No matter what you do, there isn’t a way to break the barriers. Well, there’s nothing you can do during the main story, as those purple seals are part of the post-game content. Once you beat the story, you’ll be able to obtain Dark Fire from shadow enemies to break through these barriers and acquire the treasures behind them. Read on to find out more about the best places to farm Dark Fire, as well as where to find all of the sealed areas in the game.
You will come across some areas in dungeons with a purple seal blocking you.
Where to Farm Dark Fire¶
As mentioned above, after beating the main story, you’ll be able to speak with Trip at your base camp to learn about some post-game activities. One of these activities involve the purple seals you’ve likely come across in various dungeons. In order to break the seals, you’ll need an item called Dark Fire, which drops from any shadow enemy. It should be noted that each seal will require a certain number of Dark Fire to break it, so things aren’t as simple as just getting one for each seal.
Fort Gardhart¶
Naturally, if you’ve done a lot of exploration in Ginormosia, you’ve come across a large castle in West Greatgut Plains, which is Fort Gardhart. The place is sealed by a barrier, but completing all of the Shrines and using the Crow Feather (story item) will allow you to gain entry into the fort. Not only is this place home to one of the Legendary Recipes, but reaching the top will allow you to weaken the final boss of the story.
(1 of 3) Fort Gardhart is one of the locations where you can farm Dark Fires.
The biggest boon of this place is that it’s filled with shadow enemies, the target that not only drops Dark Fires, but also Mysterious Slates that you can hand over to
Edward for potential new recipes. This place will level up with the Area Rank for West Greatgut Plains, so if you want to make things easier/harder, adjust it to your liking. The only problem with Gardhart is that the drop rate for Dark Fires seems to be rather low here, bringing us to the next option.
Monster Houses¶
If you’ve dabbled with the Treasure Groves at all, then you might know of a rare room in them, called Monster Houses. This room is a little hard to get, but the benefits far outweigh rerolling groves until you get one. All of the enemies in a Monster House will be shadow monsters, which of course means that they can drop the Slates and Dark Fires. The drop rates for both items in Monster Houses also seem to be much higher than outside of them, so they are the best spots for farming them.
(1 of 4) Getting a Monster House to appear in a Treasure Grove is your best option.
There’s a little trick you can do, too, to maximize the potential with these Monster Houses. You can defeat all but one of the enemies inside, then go to your Weird Pad to find the option to quit that Treasure Grove. While you might think this is bad, since it says you “retired/failed,” it’s actually not. You can hop right back into the same Treasure Grove, go back to the Monster House, and do the same thing again. Since there are a lot of sealed areas, you’re going to need a lot of Dark Fires!
All Purple Sealed Area Locations¶
There are a decent number of sealed areas, each requiring a specific number of Dark Fires to lift said seal. The following table lists all of their locations, along with the number of Dark Fires required, and what you will find behind the seal as your reward.
Location | Dark Fires | Reward |
---|---|---|
Banaan Cave | 5 | Four chests (one recipe and three items) |
Quetzal Nest | 10 | ![]() |
Warren Willow Hollow B1 | 50 | ![]() ![]() |

Cave of Trials B1 | 30 | Gold Ore Deposits, ![]() |
The Depths B1 | 30 | ![]() |
(1 of 5) The sealed areas will have this icon on the map, when you explore the dungeons.
Looking at the above list, you’ll need a total of 215 Dark Fires to open all of the seals. Some of them aren’t worth opening, though, since the rewards are kind of lackluster. For example, the one in Banaan Cave only costs 5 fires and while it contains four chests, you probably won’t really get much of anything from them. However, the seal in Warren Willow Hollow is likely the best seal to open first, due to having both a Luminous Darkwood Tree and
Luminous Magic Ore Deposit. Both of these yield items needed for endgame crafting, so you’ll want to farm this spot a lot for their drops (even if you can get
Magic Ore easily elsewhere).
Another great spot is the seal in Spirit Road, as it contains a Wicked Mandrake boss veggie. This respawns and the drops it yields is needed in a few recipes, making it much easier than trying to grow it yourself at your base camp. The
Shadow Carrotella boss behind the seal in The Depths is also useful, if only because it’s a good source for having that boss available. Likewise, the seal in Yohoho Cavern seems to be one of the only sources for the Rare Fish Shadow, which always seems to give you a
Darkfish when you fish it up.
