The Farmer is one of two new unlockable Lives in Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time. When you first visit Auntie Anne in the Guild Hall, you’ll notice that there are 14 Lives available, but the Farmer and Artist are locked. In this guide we’ll explain how to unlock the Farmer, the best Farmer skills, and other important information on the new Life.
Learning to master the Farmer Life
How to unlock Farmer¶
To unlock the Farmer life you need to progress the main story quest. Specifically, you’ll need to complete The Polturnip and the Leafe mission, and then go to Auntie Anne to collect the Farmer’s license. This is the fourth chapter in the game.
During the mission you’ll need to remove the giant Polturnip blocking the way forward. Without story spoilers, you’ll meet someone important to the Farmer Life, and they will assist you in the basics of learning how to farm before clearing the way for you. Then, you’ll have to visit the Elder Tree. At some point in this quest you’ll receive a Spirit How from Inaji. This is the moment you can select the Farmer Life.

How to Farm¶
After beginning the Farmer Life, either by completing the introductory mission or skipping it, you’ll be able to add farms to your base camp. You can purchase farms from Cooke in the Guild building for 500 Dosh. Seeds can be bought from Marco.
Then, place some farms at your base and plant the seeds. Wait for them to be fully grown and then harvest them.

At some times, you may encounter boss veggies. These have a dig-dig meter, marked in red, and you should position yourself on the meter until it turns blue before attacking with your hoe. After the veggie’s health bar is depleted, you can harvest it. This is demonstrated in the Farmer Life introductory quest, if you want to practice before applying it to real-world situations. You’ll also get some Dosh in exchange for selling the boss veggie at the nearby vendor.
Farmer Life challenges¶
Some of the Farmer Life challenges include watering crops, harvesting onions, potatoes, radishes, carrots, pale onions, and more. As you work your way up the Farmer Life ranks, the challenges will become more complex, including the requirement to get an ‘Excellent’ when harvesting crops.
To get an ‘Excellent’ you will need to ensure the last time you dig a crop, you use the ‘dig hard’ option. This ensures an excellent harvest.
Farmer skills
Best Farmer skills¶
The best Farmer skills will focus on gathering XP faster, but you should also gravitate towards any skill points that are flashing as these will teach you new skills rather than improving your existing ones. One of the earliest you can get is Plow, which allows you to swing your hoe down harder in order to deal more damage to boss veggies or harvest crops faster.
