Just because you serve under the same banner doesn’t mean your goals are completely aligned, and this holds true whether you’re mortal, vrakhiri or a vrakhiri’s servant. While these petty schisms can provide opportunities for rebels, they also tend to lead to undue pain and misery among the weak who get caught up in the crossfire, and all of these dynamics can be seen first hand during one of "Ambrus" iconAmbrus’s Draining Dungeon quests, Evil and Convenience. This page will provide a walkthrough for the aforementioned quest, including info on what happens if you spare or kill the Chief Jailor and where to find his hidden treasure in "The Blood of Dawnwalker" iconThe Blood of Dawnwalker.

Page Breakdown

Draining Dungeon List and Rewards

Quest Time Reward
Evil and Convenience 3 250 XP, Skill Point x1

Defeat the guards and search the camp to find clues,

then head into the barn and keep searching to find a Brass Key.

Evil and Convenience Walkthrough

Look for the fort housing this Draining Dungeon on the western edge of Ambrus’s domain, north of the "Boar's Back" iconBoar’s Back forest. Enter through the gate on the palisade and slaughter four soldiers inside, then get to searching:

  • any of the wagons inside the palisade walls
  • the pit full of corpses to the right of the gate
  • a torn banner near the corpse-filled pit
  • any of the piles of hay stacked against the buildings
  • an “instrument of torture” in a shack opposite the gate
  • go inside the barn to the left of the gate and find a "Reprimand from Ambrus" iconReprimand from Ambrus on a table
  • take a "Brass Key" iconBrass Key on the same table as the aforementioned note
  • strung up corpses in the same barn

(1 of 3) Enter a building across from the barn and the Chief Jailor will beg for his life. You can spare him to get info about his hidden treasure,

Choice - Spare or Kill the Chief Jailor?

Once all that’s done, exit the barn and enter the building across from it to find the Chief Jailor, a mewling murderer who begs for his life, using the Nuremberg defense. You you three options here:

  • You’re not going anywhere.: Provokes a fight with the Chief Jailor, who functions as a miniboss, albeit not a terribly strong one. Be wary, as he’ll throw projectiles at you if you keep your distance. You can loot him for the "Treasure Map: Hidden Stash" iconTreasure Map: Hidden Stash and some random drops.

  • Pay me and you walk.: You’ll avoid a fight and the Chief Jailor will tell you where he hid some treasure, giving you the same information as if you looted and read the Treasure "Map: Hidden Stash" iconMap: Hidden Stash.

  • [give in to the hunger]: Coen will feast on the Chief Jailor, killing him without the need for a fight. You won’t get any combat EXP (trivial as it is), but you can loot the dead Chief Jailor to obtain the Treasure Map: Hidden Stash and random loot just like as if you had killed him properly.

Call us self-righteous, but we prefer to kill the Chief Jailor. Fighting him fairly gets you a bit of EXP, while feasting on him will give you some Corruption, but the choice doesn’t really matter much. You’ll also get to loot the dead Chief Jailor for a bit of random loot you couldn’t get otherwise, if you need something more tangible.

If you didn’t get the treasure map, read the “Ledger” on a desk in the room where you encountered the Chief Jailor to complete the quest,

or find a fallen tree outside the palisade to find a hidden chest. Either way, the quest reward is the same.

Finding the Chief Jailor’s Hidden Treasure

Now let’s end this quest. If you Did NOT learn about the hidden treasure, just loot the "Ledger" iconLedger on the desk in the room where you found the Chief Jailor. This will complete the quest, earning you 250 EXP and 1x Skill Point. If you did learn about the hidden treasure - either by sparing the Chief Jailor or by reading the map (however you killed the Chief Jailor doesn’t matter in the latter case), you’ll have to find it to complete the quest. Exit the camp via the palisade gate, turn left and follow the walls and you should see a fallen tree ahead of you. The treasure is buried near this tree. Loot it and you’ll read the "Letter from Bakir" iconLetter from Bakir, learning about the unhealthy relationship between the boyars.

You’ll get the same reward however you end the quest, and it’ll take up 3 TIME either way. If you complete the quest by reading the Ledger, you can still loot the buried treasure, so it doesn’t really matter which you do first.
