Withering Away - Page-Turner - Like Father, Like Son
Deep Down
One of the more interesting quests in the prologue, Blasphemy actually changes (albeit in a fairly inconsequential way) how the prologue plays out and is fairly lucrative, as far as prologue quests go. This page will cover your choices and their consequences in the side quest Blasphemy in
The Blood of Dawnwalker!

Find Gremla prostrate outside of her shed and talk to her to start this quest.
Starting Blasphemy¶
To start this quest, just follow the main road running south towards
Laslea Glen’s southern gate and as you go, you should spot a congregation outside a house along the road. Talk to an upset woman named
Gremla and you’ll find out that somebody stole the banner she was weaving on
Brencis’s orders, and while the gathered villagers are pantomiming concern, none of them have any solutions for Gremla. It might seem like a trivial matter, but Gremla is certain that Brencis will have her head if she doesn’t deliver the banner.
Offer to help out to start this quest.
Investigate Gremla’s Shed¶
Time to track down the thief! Enter the shed Gremla is prostrate in front of an examine the loom to get some info, then exit the shed, turn right and head around the side of the shed while holding down L2. You should spot some footprints and another odd track alongside them. Be sure to examine both sets of tracks to learn that somebody larger than Gremla left the footprints and that whomever left these footprints also had a cane.
That should narrow things down!
Follow the tracks a bit longer and you’ll find a piece of cloth on the grass near the fence. Be sure to rotate this torn piece of banner to find the blood on the other side - apparently our thief is a male (or less likely, a large female) with an injured hand and a cane.
Find the Thief¶
You should now get a search area that’s… well, roughly the size of most of the village. Laslea Glen isn’t a huge place, nor a terribly populated one, but roaming around looking at every NPC to see if they match the thief’s profile is a bit of a chore… even if we automatically use our gamer-instincts to filter out everybody named “Villager”. Potential characters of interest will also glow yellow when viewed with Focus Mode.
You can talk to a man in the crowd near Gremla named Alois, who will point you towards Otokar. Otokar can be found southeast of Gremla’s shed and he only has one of the traits we’re looking for… and has a good reason for it, too. He’ll brush us off and tell us to seek out Dana, who can be found further up the road northwest of Gremla’s shed, sitting on a bench along the side of the road. Talk to her and like Otokar, she’s got one thing we’re looking for, but none of the others, but she will tell you to seek out a man named
Premysl.
All of this is strictly unnecessary, as Premysl is the only character we need to talk to, and he can be found along the northeastern edge of the search area - his house is rather near the castle grounds, just north of a field full of piles of hay. Talk to him and you’ll get some dialog options where you can accuse him based on what you know of the thief and Premysl’s own specific quirks, courtesy of Dana:
- ”Somebody stole the banner - did you hear?”
- ”I see you’ve hurt your hand.”
- ”Is that your cane?”
- ”Dana said you didn’t like what vrakhiri are doing with the church.”
You should only need to bring up the hand and cane to unlock the option to accuse Premysl via the dialog option ”I know you stole the banner, Premysl.”, and leveling this accusation will consume 1 TIME and set you on the path towards completing the quest.
(1 of 3) Follow leads until your path leads to Premysl along the northeastern edge of town,
Choice: Side with Premysl or Gremla¶
Accuse Premysl and he’ll confess without a whole lot of fuss, but he does try to justify his actions. Pick the option ”Why did you take it?”, then after Premysl shows you the blasphemous banner he wants to desecrate the church with, pick any option, after which you’ll get several more options that determine, in part, how this quest ends.
If you pick the option “Angering Brencis will put my family at risk.”, then ”This is just an empty gesture. Return the banner.” and Presmyl will see reason and agree to return the banner, netting you 250 EXP. Return to Gremla and tell her the news to obtains 325 EXP and 25
Denarius. If you say ”You haven’t convinced me.”, things play out mostly the same way, just with different dialog.
More interestingly, if you say ”Maybe you’re right…” at any point, Premysl will decide you’re a good chap for agreeing with him, and you’ll be given a
Daylight Amulet and 500 EXP. At this point you can “Report Premysl to Gremla or keep his secret”, the latter of which you do by just doing… nothing. Ignore the quest until sunset or return to Gremla and tell her ”No. I’m sorry.” to net another 75 EXP on top of the 500 EXP you just got.
Alternatively if you side with Premysl by saying ”Maybe you’re right…” then snitch on him to Gremla you’ll gain the 500 EXP and Daylight Amulet from Premysl and another 325 EXP and 25 Denarius. Not only is this the most lucrative outcome, but arguably the better one in terms of narrative outcome.
If you do not tell Gremla that Premysl has the banner, she will end up decorating the church when Mass is held. If you do, the banner will be there, instead, and nobody dies. If Gremla ends up strung up inside the church, Premysl will be shocked and remorseful in the pews, but it’s a bit too late for Gremla… and the church ends up being blasphemed in an arguably more grotesque way. It’s a choice between the lesser of two evils, but in this case the two evils are very distinct - a nasty banner is far less awful decoration than Gremla’s corpse.
