Best Vampirism Perks and Abilities
All Skill Manual Merchants and Trainer Locations
The dark gift manifests differently in each vrakhiri, giving them access to different abilities. As with most things involving vrakhiri, becoming stronger isn’t a matter of effort or merit, but consumption - feasting on mortals will increase your corruption level and allow you to rank up skills you already have access to, but much on another vrakhiri and you may take their powers as your own, giving you access to abilities you previously didn’t possess. This page will cover how to unlock every vrakhiri ability in the Vampirism tree and where to find the Vrakhiri blood that unlocks it!

When you start the game, you will have access to the following abilities in the Vampirism skill tree:
- Voracious Hunger
Death from Above
Crimson Rush- Rend
Shapeshift
Meanwhile the following skills are locked until you consume vrakhiri blood:
Shadowstorm
Piercing Shriek
Blood Surge- Mesmerize
Scarlet Shield
Not every ability on the top list may be unlocked at first, but if you’re willing to increase your corruption level (simply use Voracious Hunger to feast on humans or wildlife) you’ll be able to invest skill points to unlock them. To get access to the skills on the lower list, however, you’ll need to consume vrakhiri blood from a specific source. Fortunately the game’s main antagonists are all vrakhiri, so some of the vrakhiri you need to target may be obvious, but there are other ways to get ahold of their blood, as follows:
One way to obtain this blood, is, of course, from Brencis and his boyars, but there are alternatives to defeating these story bosses.
The Boyars¶
As mentioned earlier, the boyars are the most obvious source of vrakhiri blood. If you complete court quests you’ll anger the boyars until eventually you’ll unlock a quest to deal with them. When you defeat each boyar you’ll get the opportunity to feed on them, and doing so will unlock their powers:
If you don’t deal with the boyars earlier, individually, you’ll also encounter them during the endgame quest, where you’ll get one last chance to drink their blood… but it’s a bit late for builds by that point!
Fortunately there are other ways to get vrakhiri blood without having to defeat bosses or wait until the end of the game, although many are obtained during quests and it may be a while before you’re strong enough to complete them. Other sources of vrakhiri blood will be covered below, by skill:
Complete all three Leech Collector quests and destroy the blood barrels at at least one camp, then defeat The Bloodletter to get a Vial of Bakir’s Blood.
Shadowstorm¶
Likely the earliest optional skill you can unlock, you can get a Vial of Bakir’s Blood by completing all three Leech Collector quests and defeating The Bloodletter boss that spawns at the end. You must destroy the barrels at at least one of the sites for The Bloodletter to spawn. Alternatively you can complete the quest
Xanthe’s Recruiters: Come Home. Naturally you can also get this ability by defeating Bakir during the quest The Lunar Game.
You will automatically obtain the Piercing Shriek ability at the end of the quest “Our Rotten Roots”,
but you can also complete the quest “Xanthe’s Recruiters: Taste of Power” to get a Vial of Brencis’s Blood.
Piercing Shriek¶
Passed on by Brencis’s blood, you can obtain a Vial of Brencis’s Blood by either completing the quest
Xanthe’s Recruiters: Taste of Power. You’ll also obtain this automatically at the end of the quest Our Rotten Roots no matter what choices you make.
(1 of 3) During the quest “A monk and a Saint”, bribe a young acolyte to get into the room he’s cleaning,
Blood Surge¶
As far as we know, there’s only one source of a Vial of Xanthe’s Blood - during the quest A Monk and a Saint you’ll eventually need to snoop around
Svartrau Cathedral. On the second floor of the treasury you’ll find an ornate casket that contains this blood, but you’ll need the
Treasury Key to get into this building.
There are a few ways to do this, but here’s one relatively painless solution: Enter the cathedral during the day and after a scene with
Florin (your actions here don’t matter), talk a young Acolyte in the northwestern corner of the cathedral and pay him 25 denarii to get into the room here cleaning. Once inside, examine a book on a table near a window to get this key. Once you have it, exit the room and follow the wall southeast until you find two doors to the left (north, northeast). Exit through them to find yourself in a courtyard outside. The treasury building is just ahead, slightly to the right. Enter, go upstairs, go through a door to the right, then turn right to find the ornate golden casket you see on a table.
Alternatively, you can defeat Xanthe during her quest The Cycle of Love.
Complete the quest “The Night of Horrors” to learn Mesmerize outright, or obtain a Vial of Lacra’s Blood, which achieves the same end.
Mesmerize¶
Not much fuss with this one - complete the quest The Night of Horrors and you’ll either obtain the ability outright or you’ll get a Vial of
Lacra’s Blood.
You can find a Vial of Ambrus’s Blood during the quest “Xanthe’s Recruiters: Just a Bit More”.
Scarlet Shield¶
You can obtain a Vial of Ambrus’s Blood by completing the quest
Xanthe’s Recruiters: Just a Bit More. You can also defeat him during his quest The Gilded Gauntlet to unlock Scarlet Shield.
