As lord of the marshy northern reaches of Vallis Sangora, one of "Ambrus" iconAmbrus’s duties is to facilitate the collection of leeches, as their spittle can keep blood from coagulating, increasing its lifespan for eventual consumption by the vrakhir. Putting an end to these leech harvesting endeavors would hit the vrakhir where it hurts… at least in theory, although more likely they’ll just bleed their human cattle more aggressively to sate their hunger. In any event, you can complete these activities to earn the ire of Ambrus and eventually force him to confront you. This page will discuss the three leech collection quests in "The Blood of Dawnwalker" iconThe Blood of Dawnwalker.

Leech Collector Camps - Destroy the Barrels or Leave Them

There are three Leech Collection activities in the center of Ambrus’s domain - Bounty of the Mire, Wetland Helpers and Unsavoury Solutions, and they all more or less function the same way: find a swamp island where a small camp has been built, slay Ambrus’s soldiers occupying the camp - there’s about four of them in each camp - then find the barrels of collected leeches… after looting the slain and plundering the camp, of course. These fights should be easy enough to win either at day or night, so unless you have a strong preference for one or another, feel free to complete them whenever.

Everything up to this point is consequence free, but interacting the barrels will cost 3 TIME. When you interact with the leech barrels, some collectors may show up and whine about your planned vandalism - the prospect of long-term freedom from the vrakhir apparently isn’t worth pursuing for these cowards considering the prospects of the short-term losses. Simply put, they want to sell the leeches the labored to collect and will beg you to desist. These aren’t unique encounters and if there are long-term consequences either way, we haven’t seen them. If you capitulate you’ll get the same reward as standing your ground - 250 XP, Skill Point x1 and "Blood Leeches" iconBlood Leeches for each camp you complete. The amount of leeches you harvest will increase each camp you complete, with x5 Blood Leeches for the first one, x12 Blood Leeches at the second and x18 Blood Leeches when you make a decision about the third barrel.

Your choices mostly don’t matter, but if you destroy any barrels at any of the camps, you will trigger a miniboss fight when you finish up with the third camp:

If you destroyed the barrels at least once, The Bloodletter will appear after you deal with the barrels at the final camp.

He’s a tough foe, but the rewards are worth the bother, as he drops an awful lot of loot!

Boss - The Bloodletter

Destroy any of the barrels at any of the camps, and after you make a decision at the third camp The Bloodletter boss should spawn nearby. This massive foe wields a sword in each hand, and he’s a considerable step up in difficulty from the normal guards posted in these camps. If you see him perform an unblockable attack, dodge away twice, as the AoE of this attack can easily catch you if you don’t commit to putting distance between you and your foe.

He drops quite a bit of loot when defeated, and frankly fighting him is probably the most alluring part of this questline. If you’re not going to clear all three camps and fight The Bloodletter, you probably should spend your time doing something else.
