Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty

How To Beat Xiahou Dun In Wo Long

By
Jacob Woodward

Wo Long is certainly a challenging experience, especially for those that aren’t accustomed to a Soulslike experience. Bosses are a key part of this, varying in both mechanics and overall difficulty no matter what point of the game you are at.

Xiahou Dun, who you encounter in the Part 5 War’s Flames Blaze Fiercely mission, is a particularly tricky boss to get rid of due to various reasons. This guide will run you through a few strategies on how to beat Xiahou Dun in Wo Long so you can dispatch this less than ideal battle and then onto the next mission.

Xiahou Dun Wo Long: How To Beat

If you’ve already faced up against Xiahou Dun and are looking for any form of help in beating this boss, you’ll know it’s no joke. Its attacks are pretty strong, and the battlefield almost becomes engulfed in flame due to the sheer amount of fire reigning down on you. Thankfully, we’ve got a few tips to aid you in your efforts.

Entering the Xiahou Dun fight in Wo Long

The first of these is more of a general tip, but one that you might not have thought about if you’ve rushed straight to Xiahou Dun - raising your morale rank. Xiahou Dun is around the 20 Morale Rank mark depending on if it’s your first time fighting it, or if you’re on your tenth attempt. So, we suggest you roam around the mission zone and plant as many Battle/Marker Flags, boosting that Fortitude Rank floor so you don’t have to farm enemies as much to get the upper hand. Doing this will put the boss on more of a level playing field, allowing you to absorb more damage as well as inflicting more harm with each attack.

Moving to more specific strategies for Xiahou Dun, let’s initially look at weapon choice. Our suggestion here is a dual weapon of some kind, potentially leaning toward the dual swords if you have a high star option. The reason why is because you get a very limited chance to actually hit Xiahou Dun, something we will touch more on shortly, so having a fast weapon that also deals a little more damage than that of a regular sword.

Next up, let’s talk allies. At this point in the game, you’re allowed to summon in two allies and we strongly suggest that you do this for Xiahou Dun. This will enable you to not only have some breathing room to get some heals off if necessary, but also allow them to absorb attacks from Xiahou Dun while you potentially throw some Wizardry Spells in from afar. This tactic works especially well here as Xiahou Dun does tend to stay away for some time and has relatively slow attacks compared to other bosses in the game.

Utilising allies to distract and absorb damage from Xiahou Dun

Speaking of attacks, this is Xiahou Dun’s biggest weakness. What we mean by this is that you can really exploit its attacks, using them to your advantage rather than being scared of them. Xiahou Dun spends most of its time in the air and then striking from above, and slowly for that matter.

Xiahou Dun preparing an attack from above

So, because of this, you can really get the parry timing down extremely easily negating any damage taken as well as knocking that Spirit Gauge down, opening Xiahou Dun for many a Fatal Strike. The difficult part here is patience, as you find yourself getting a little antsy and then making a mistake before the parry window becomes available.

Successfully deflecting a Xiahou Dun attack from above

The rest of the fight speaks for itself really, simply use your allies to your advantage by letting them take the brunt of its attacks when needed, and then get involved, be patient and wait for those attacks from above that can easily be deflected. Once that happens, get some serious hits in with your dual weapons and before you know it, Xiahou Dun’s health will be gone in no time.
