Grounded

How To Get To The Upper Yard In Grounded

By
Paul McNally

With the arrival of the full version of Grounded - known by the moniker of Grounded 1.0 - developer Oblivion has opened up an entirely new area of the world for us to play in - but getting there is not a simple task nor is it one for the feign-hearted or unprepared. However if you are up for the challenge here’s how to make your way to Grounded’s Upper Yard.

The view from the Upper Yard looks glorious in the early evening sunset.

When Should You Go To The Upper Yard?

Make no mistake here, the Upper Yard is late game content and, even though you can head there much earlier in the game - basically as soon as you get the recipe for explosives - it is a much more sensible option not to do so, at least until your armor and weaponry is up to scratch.

Of course, if you are playing in Creative Mode then there is nothing to fear so you can go and have a good exploration around all the new sites we have to see. You will still need to follow the steps below to access it though. Let’s go.

How To Access The Upper Yard

Upper Yard Ascent can be found in this section of the map.

The access to the Upper Yard is in the northwestern corner of the map as you can see in the image above. An excellent way to hone in on the spot you need to be is to locate the pond net on the north side of the Koi Pond and follow the wall around to the left/west until you come to the stones. If you are keeping your eyes peeled you should also notice a Milk Molar hidden in the walls close to the spot you are trying to locate.

To do the next bit you need to locate the stick that leads up to a tock. From here you can jump up to the next rock and make a leap to the wall across the gap. If you pull it off you can move around to the right and you should see some roots and a break in the normal wall pattern. You can jump up onto these roots and carefully make your way upwards until your path is blocked by the marked stone shown in the image below. Approach the stone and the game will tell you that the stone can, and indeed has to be destroyed by explosives.

(1 of 3) Once you have located this stick you can start the ascent.

Now hopefully you have either a or preferably a , in your backpack. If not, you are going to have to go and make some explosives and return when you are ready.

As a reminder to get the "Bratburst" iconBratburst recipe you need to analyze "Fungal Growth" iconFungal Growth at a Field Station - which means you must have already made a for a trip into The Haze and killed an infected creature.

You will also need a red ant egg and four dry grass chunks to complete your bomb. If you have the ability to make a "Splatburst" iconSplatburst (using a Bratburst, sap, and web fibers) you will find the next bit easier because your weapon will stick to the rock surface, rather than bouncing everywhere and you hoping it explodes close enough to have an effect.

Drop back down to the position before the roots and aim your explosive at the rock. If you are using a Splatburst you can aim at the surface and it should stick. For a Bratburst you should make sure it lands somewhere around the rock. Maybe try and through it over the rock or at the very least so it doesn’t bounce back down and kill you. It may take a couple of tries to get it to work properly so a save is a wise move here.

Once the rock has been destroyed you can go back up the root and instead of trying to get up where the rock was, instead jump onto the nearby leaf and head up it until you reach the ledge above. Congratulations, you can now look down on the world from the Upper Yard.
