Dondoko Island is a simulation game and this is furthered with the fact that you have upgradable tools. Tools are used to gather resources and at first, they don’t perform all that well. This makes harvesting items and catching critters rather slow. Luckily, you can begin the upgrade process early on. Where to Upgrade Tools and Upgrade Costs¶
You will receive all three tools shortly after arriving on Dondoko Island. This consists of a bat, a net, and a harpoon. Tools can be upgraded a total of three times. Upgrading the bat gives you the ability to do charged attacks that can take out multiple targets and allows you to swing faster, making combat a cinch. The harpoon and net can be upgraded for faster movement, making catching critters all that much easier. To upgrade a tool, you will need to see Kenzo at the Dondoko Island shop. The table below goes over the cost for all three upgrade tiers.

Once your tools are fully upgraded, their color will change to gold. There’s also a possible correlation between the Golden Shark appearing and having a completely leveled-up Harpoon, but this hasn’t completely been proven. Players should try to upgrade their tools as quickly as possible as this makes collecting resources and critters much faster. The faster your gathering ability, the more you can get done in a single day.
