Nether Kraken Boss Guide

You will face a few bosses in Mina the Hollower, the first of which is Nether Kraken. While you technically don’t have to beat this boss, since the game continues even if you lose, there is a reward you can obtain early should you do so. However, it is by no means an easy challenge, since the battle will automatically end if you get low enough on health. Read on to learn all of the attacks the Nether Kraken can do, as well as how to defeat it to get the Uranium Bracelet Trinket.

You’ll face off with the Nether Kraken on the deck of the ship at the very start of the game.

Nether Kraken Attacks

It goes without saying that the Kraken will use nothing but its tentacles to attack you. These are all of the attacks you will see throughout the fight.

  • Tentacle Slam: The Kraken will slam one of its tentacles on the ship. The best thing to do is to jump away from it, as that seems to work better than trying to move. Of course, you can also burrow to move faster away from the tentacle.

  • Tentacle Slide: The most annoying move during the battle, the Kraken will slide one of its tentacles up or down. The tentacle that moves will always shake a little bit first, so you can tell which one will move.

  • Tentacle Barrage: At some point during the fight, usually 50% or less HP, the Kraken will shake and use this move. It will alternate slamming each of its tentacles for a total of 7 times. The last one will stay on the ground for a few seconds before being retracted.

The Kraken will largely just smash its tentacles on the deck of the ship.

Look out when a tentacle shakes, as it will drag it across the ship, so get ready to jump.

Nether Kraken Boss Strategy

If you wish to defeat the Nether Kraken, then you will need to be careful. If your health gets too low, the battle will automatically end and the game will move on, so winning is completely optional. Mina’s movements aren’t the best and she moves slower on the ground, than under the ground. Despite that, it takes a good second or so for her to actually burrow, which can mean the difference between getting hit or not, and the less you get hit during this bout, the better. The biggest tip for this fight is that you can damage the Kraken (and yourself) at the beginning, when it is attacking the ship in the cutscene, so you can get a head start on depleting its health.

As for the weapon that you choose, the Maul might be the hardest of the three to win with, but it doesn’t really matter. You need to worry about the pattern of the Kraken’s tentacles here, as he will usually slam one or both on the deck, then possibly slide one across the boat. That’s where the biggest problem lies with this battle, as the Kraken can sometimes stop short when it moves the tentacles, so you may think you’re jumping over it when you actually collide with it to take damage. The biggest part of this battle is getting use to that Tentacle Slide attack and adjusting accordingly.

You can get a head start by attacking the tentacles before the battle officially begins.

Learning how the Kraken fights is the most important part if you wish to win.

Once you get its health down to a certain amount, you should see the Kraken shake and then start alternatively slamming its tentacles on the boat. Don’t bother attacking at this point and keep dodging the strikes, until you count to seven, as that’s when the final one will stop and stay on the ship for a brief second. Outside of that, the Kraken will continue its normal assault with its tentacles. It’s important to always keep track of the shaking a tentacle will do before it moves up or down.

For defeating the Nether Kraken, you will receive the Uranium Bracelet Trinket. Trinkets are equippable items that grant all kinds of different bonuses. The Uranium Bracelet significantly increases both the damage you deal, as well as the damage you receive, so it’s a doubled-edged sword.
