When you begin to play Mina the Hollower, you will notice that there isn’t a traditional map for you to view, which can make it a little difficult to navigate the many areas you will explore. However, you can unlock a map of the island, that shows you the different areas you can explore. This Isle Map also gets upgraded later on in the game, to include collectible numbers on it, so you know if anything is missing in an area. However, to get this, you will have to trek through a small dungeon, so read on to find out how to get through the dungeon and get the map.
Rebel Barracks Location¶
You won’t be able to start this little sidequest until you defeat Thorne in the Prologue, and have the ability to explore the town of Ossex. Once you do, make sure you have a Kear on hand and leave the town to the south. This takes you to the Southern Outskirts area and you want to continue straight south. When you see some soldiers on the left side, you should also notice a Kear Lock just below them. That’s the ticket, so unlock it and drop down into the area with enemies. After clearing them all, you will see a different type of lock. This requires you to sacrifice one of your Plasma Vials, so do that to gain access to the Rebel Barracks.
Go straight south from Ossex until you see this Kear Lock off to the left.
These locks require you to sacrifice Plasma Vials in order to break them.
Where to Find Rhene¶
When you first enter the Rebel Barracks, you’ll be in a room with four enemies. Carefully maneuver around and take them out, then hit the button in the corner to lower the bars on the right side. You can exit to the left to find some jail cells, but you’re restricted to one and it only has some Bones inside it. Go up the stairs now to find an area with some moving platforms, as well as some ball and chains circling set spots. There are a few bats in here, but try to ignore them if you can. Don’t forget that you can burrow to dodge the ball and chains, if needed.
Once you get to the far left side, enter the next room to see a new enemy, one swinging a ball and chain. While the weapon moves in a set pattern, it’s very quick when you engage the enemy, plus he also can hit you with a melee attack periodically, so you can’t keep close. He also has a lot of health, so it might be a little bit before you finally bring him down. When you do, though, you can open the middle cell and speak to the NPC there. She asks you for a Plasma Vial to help with her injuries, so if you don’t have any remaining, you’ll have to continue through the dungeon until you get one to drop.

After giving her a heal, speak with her again to find out she is Rhene (rhymes with clean!) and you’ll have to help her escape this place. It should be noted that Rhene can make things a lot easier for you, as she has a special ability. Moving around with her in tow will have her clean the floor, causing items to appear, which includes Joules to replenish your Sidearms. More important than that, though, are Plasma Vials! So, you could literally move around the room where you find her until she digs up three heals, making you fully stocked.
Rescuing Rhene¶
Take the stairs in the room and jump around the ball and chains, until you can reach the central part of the room. There will be enemies here, as well as more obstacles to hurt you, so be careful. Once you clear all enemies, burrow under the hole towards the bottom right, allowing you to reach the two smaller areas on the southern side. Despite seemingly not having to go this way, you actually do, since Rhene is unable to cross pits that are larger than one-tile. So, you have to open all of the iron gates at the bottom, then when the enemies are gone, escort Rhene through the bottom path, then up the left side.
The next room will have a fight against three enemies, one of which is the ball and chain foe. You can inch forward to draw the first two enemies, defeat them, then have just the last one by himself. This makes things a lot easier, so you’re not overwhelmed. When the coast is clear, destroy the boxes in the upper right to reveal the switch to lower the metal bars. The stairs behind them lead you outside, where Rhene says she’s going back to the Hollower’s Guild.
Drillhardt Location¶
When you return there and to the back room, Rhene and Muriel will fix up the place. Speak to Rhene to learn that she can customize the look of your Underlab, through the use of themes, but this isn’t the Isle Map. If you look at the room, you will notice something green moving on the left side. Burrow under it to discover it’s an NPC, and that it’s Drillhardt! He will sell a few things for your Underlab, one of which is the Isle Map (this costs 500 Bones).
You can only view it in the Underlab in the upper left, where it displays all of the regions you’ve visited. It doesn’t provide too much information right now, but later on after some events, the map will display the number of items to be found within the various regions.
