Loner's Landing - Blighted Docks
Exploring Ossex
When you first arrive in Ossex, hit the checkpoint/Underlab near the entrance, then get ready to explore the town! Oh, you can’t really do that right now, as there are guards all over the place. So, the only thing you can really do is go north. Ignore the enemies you encounter, as the guards will take care of them for you, so keep going until you see someone in your way. Despite his protests that your letter could be forged, you can just burrow to move past him and onto Radiant Manor.
Radiant Manor¶
The Courtyard doesn’t really have much of anything, so you can largely ignore all of the stuff you can destroy here, unless you need to refill your Joules. Head inside the manor, hitting another checkpoint, and go straight to the left, as all other paths are blocked. There are a lot of people in this room, which makes sense as it’s a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Burrow your way to the front to get things moving, then speak to Lionel at the front afterwards. Before leaving the manor, go up and look for the presents, which are items you can destroy for some Bones.
You can burrow under the guard to get to the mansion.
There’s not much to do at the mansion, except explore and collect some Bones.
Enter either of the doorways on the right side for more Bones, some of which are under beds. In the middle section, you can burrow under the right bed along the bottom to get more stuff, as well as bust open the door down here to open it fully. That’s about all you can do here now, so exit the manor and go into the courtyard. As you enter the square, you’ll get thrown into another boss battle.
Thorne Boss Strategy¶
Thorne is a relatively simple boss, just because his attacks are easy to read and dodge. He has a few moves to start with, and he’ll add more as he gets lower on health. The arena is fairly big here, too, so there will be a lot of room to maneuver. You do want to avoid getting too close sometimes, since Thorne does like to stick his spear out at points, which can hurt you a little bit. When you see him swing his weapon, he will always do this in a combo of three, so stay away until he stops. Likewise, his normal jump move will come in threes, too, so keep moving to avoid them all.
He also has another jump maneuver, where he charges up first, but when he lands from this one, there will be a small shockwave around him, so it’s best to just stay a safe distance until you get used to the range. Things will become a little more challenging as you bring Thorne’s health down, as he will both change pre-existing ones, and introduce a new maneuver. The swipe combo move will now have five hits in total, so you’ll need to be more careful with that one as it’ll cover more ground. The earthquake jump skill will have Thorne send out a circle of little tornadoes whenever he hits the ground, so be aware of that and dodge accordingly.
The new skill will involve Thorne just shooting out the same little tornadoes. They go in straight lines, but Thorne shoots them at your previous position, so you will need to keep moving to avoid them all. The biggest reason that Thorne is an easier boss is because there are ample opportunities to attack him without retaliation. That’s because Thorne has some recovery on a few attacks, like the earthquake jump, for example. Look for those opportunities and it shouldn’t take too long to bring him down for good.
After defeating Thorne, follow Lionel to the town for a short scene, as well as learning about your goal to restore the six other Spark Generators. The town of Ossex is also pretty much open for exploring, so we’ll do that first before tackling the main objective.
