This is a guide for the second area in The Suburbs in The Last of Us: Part 1. It’ll navigate you through the necessary steps to finding the safe code and clearing the ambush.

Where To Find The Suburbs Optional Conversation¶
Once you’ve made it out of the Sewers, search the nearby van for Parts x13, then make your way into the town and fully explore the second house on the right to find Blades x2, Part x11, Supplements x5, Alcohol x1, Rag x1 and the Looting Note. Return to the street and follow the path down, then enter the building that has ‘U loot I shoot’ graffitied on the wall for some optional dialogue.

Collect the Sugar x1 and Alcohol x1. Exit the building and follow the street around and approach the Ice Cream Car for an optional conversation with Ellie, then enter the garage that has a blue car parked outside to find a Workbench.
Where To Find The Melee: Techniques Training Manual¶
Once you’re done upgrading, enter the building beside the garage to find some Blades x1, Fathers Note and Parts x4, then boost Ellie up into the loft and she’ll pickup the Melee: Techniques Training Manual. Exit this building and enter the building next to it to find Parts x7, Supplements x10, Survivors Note, Messenger Particle Comic and a Safe.

Head up into the Attic to find the Matchbook Note which contains the safe combination (8-21-36), then collect the Arrows x2 and Rag x1 before going downstairs to open the safe. Inside you’ll find Supplements x10, Parts x50 and Shorty Ammo x4. Exit the house and follow the path along to the left to reach a dead end, then climb up into the nearby garden to find the Firefly Pendant - Matthew White hanging from the tree.
How To Survive The Suburbs Ambush¶
From here, make your way back through the house and enter the backyard, then drop down into the next area. You’ll now need to make your way through this area without being taken out by the sniper who’s camping out in the building at the back, so keep to the left side of the area and sprint between buildings. Eventually, you’ll come across a building which is completely destroyed and several enemies will be hiding near it, so stay in cover and wait for them to approach you and strangle them.

If you have an upgraded melee weapon, then you can finish off the remaining few with melee attacks and the shotgun. One they’ve been dealt with, head to the back of the building where the sniper is located and take out the guards with your weapon of choice. Head up into the building and take out the sniper. You’ll now need to defend Ellie, Same and Henry by picking off any Runners and Clickers that attempt to grab them as they approach you. Finally, when the armored vehicle arrives, wait for the guard to throw a Molotov and shoot him to destroy.
