Change Your Appearance
Being a Rogue Trader comes with many benefits - the whole multiplanetary empire which you are the undisputed overlord of is all well and good, but there are also more humble creature comforts which shouldn’t be taken for granted. Clean water can be something of a commodity on a voidship, so having access to a luxurious bath is certainly a perk worth enjoying! This page will cover how to use the bath in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, including the benefits of completing your ablutions and inviting companions.

Take a bath and you’ll get several options, courtesy of your Master of Ablutions.
Bath - Location and Options¶
Following the events of the prologue you’ll be on the voidship bridge, free to harass your companions and explore to your heart’s content. If you get the urge to enjoy some of the new privileges of being Rogue Trader, enter the Lord Captain’s Quarters and head into the southwestern chamber to find a pretty impressive bath… for a voidship, anyways. Complete with attendants and a waterfall! Select the “Perform your ablutions” prompt and you’ll take a bath, during which you can give the Master of Ablutions some instructions:
- [Relax and close your eyes]
- [Address the Master of Ablutions] “I wish to see someone from my retinue.”
- [Address the enforcers] ”You two, get in here! I require company and pleasant conversation.”
- [Finish your ablutions]
These will be covered below.
You can choose to relax and fill your head with your preferred alignment, getting a bonus to whatever you pick.
Alignment - Relax and Close Your Eyes¶
If you choose the [Relax and close your eyes] option at any point you will get the opportunity to choose what thoughts fill the void of your semi-conscious mind. Pick [Dogmatic], [Iconoclast] or [Heretical] option to gain a +3 bonus in that alignment. You can only do this once.
You can invite companions into the bath with you,
but early game this is mostly just a chance to earn extra EXP.
See Someone From Your Retinue¶
An interesting option, you can choose to summon one of your companions, who will present you with some options -
Abelard tries to teach you the history of the von Valancius dynasty and
Argenta wants you to perform some water-based exercises. Base on your responses (and the odd skill check) you may gain a bit of EXP. The only particularly interesting early-game encounter here is with Argenta - if you pick one of the two [
Willpower] options and pass it you will earn EXP, then if you relent and pick ”Very well. I will try your exercises.” you will get more EXP pending an [Athletics] check. Still, all this is at most a matter of a few dozen EXP.
Address the Enforcers¶
This option allows you to command two of your bodyguards into joining you, whereupon you can have them feed you, ask about their jobs and lives, or just chill out with them. It’s just a lore/flavor option, with no real stakes or rewards.
If you spend time in your bath you’ll get a “Well-Deserved Rest” buff.
Finish Your Ablutions¶
Eventually soapy fun bathtime will have to end, lest you prune! Once you’re out of the bath, however, the benefits of bathing aren’t over - you will gain the Well-Deserved Rest buff for splashing around. This buff has an indefinite duration, but is a one-off bonus expended on your next combat, where it will boost your initiative score. Since you can’t always just return to your ship and take a bath, this will be at best a marginal boon, especially since the first encounter in an area is rarely the most difficult. Still, if you take a relaxing dip in your bath every time you find yourself on your voidship you’ll enjoy a marginal benefit.
