Troubling Confessions

The Void Shadows DLC added a great bit of new content to the game, and while its titular questline gets the most attention, there are additions big and small found from near the beginning of the game to near the end. One of the most humble side quests added is Troubling Confessions, which can be easily missed by players who don’t talk to every named NPC or just assume there’s nothing new on the ol’ voidship to see. This page will cover “Troubling Confessions” in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader - Void Shadows.

Page Breakdown

Talk to Initiate Klotus in the Voidship Shrine to start “Troubling Confessions”.

Starting Troubling Confessions

To start this quest, you will need to travel to the Voidship "Shrine" iconShrine, a new area in the voidship, which you can reach any time after the prologue by exiting the Voidship Bridge to the north. Once inside the Voidship Shrine, search the northwestern edge of the area to find Initiate Klotus and pick the following dialog options:

  • ”It appears you are having difficulties.”
  • ”Let me hear them.”
  • Select all three recordings, then pick [Step away from the cogitator]
  • ”I am curious to know who left these confessions. I will seek them out.”

This will start the quest properly and task you with finding the senior officers who left these anonymous confessions.

Vox Master Vigdis can be found on the Voidship Bridge, near the Rogue Trader’s throne.

Talk voidborn to learn that their “confession” was just gibberish.

Vox Master Vigdis

Head back to the Voidship Bridge and talk to Vox Master Vigdis, who can be found near your throne. Talk to the voidborn and pick the option [Lower your voice conspiratorially] “The lop-earned kleppas. The confession.” Go through the dialog options in order, from top to bottom, to learn the benign origin of this odd “confession” and complete this objective. One down, two to go.

High Factotum Janris Danrok can also be found on the Voidship Bridge, just north of the Koronus Expanse Map.

Query his confession to find he has a soft spot for orphans… an oddly human sentiment in Warhammer 40,000.

High Factotum Janris Danrok

Also on the Voidship Bridge is High Factotum Janris Danrok, another confessor. You can find him just north of the Koronus Expanse Map. Talk to him and pick the option ”Have you made a confession lately?” then ”The orphans on the ship have already been provided with the bare essentials, have they not?” which will bring up more options. Here you can express your surprise that Janris actually has spasms of benevolence that leads to charity, which in turn causes him pangs of guilt - in the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war… and making the lives of anybody, even children, less miserable is a weakness that borders on sabotage.

You can pick the more lore-accurate response ”Lavish spending is out of order. Concentrate on your duties.” or you can impose your own real-world morality into Warhammer 40,000 and make the lives of fictional children less miserable by responding with ”I am willing to allocate extra resources to provide for orphans.”, which leads to another set of options for how, exactly, to distribute this charity. Whether you encourage Janris’s humanity or deprive orphans, this subobjective will complete, and Janris will be wisely obsequious whatever your decision.

Find Zacchary Weisz in the Astropathic Chapel,

and question him about his confession - he seems more upset by the weakness inherent in the confession than your response to it.

Zacchary Weisz

The third and final confessor can be found in the Astropathic Chapel, so exit the Voidshop Bridge to the north and travel there, then find one Zacchary Weisz in the south-center of the level, near some large piece of machinery Ask him ”Have you made a confession lately?” then pick the option ”Why are some destined to perish in the warp while others must go on living?”, after which you can pick three options that either express sympathy, suspicion or curiosity, in order. It doesn’t matter what you pick here, you’ll complete your objective and earn some EXP.

The quest is functionally over at this point, but if you wish you can head back to the Voidship Shrine and inform Initiate Klotus - you won’t get any extra rewards for doing this.
