The Scream

While travelling through the Rykad system you’ll be informed that your voidship’s Astropathic Choir is being impeded by some horrifying scream in the Immaterium. If you wish to regain the ability to receive interstellar communications again, you’ll need to deal with this menace… and who knows, nipping this threat in the bud could be beneficial, or perhaps even lucrative? This page will cover the side quest The Scream in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader - Void Shadows.

Page Breakdown

Complete any main quest in the Rykad system and travel around the system afterwards to trigger this quest.

Starting The Scream

This is one of the more easily-missed new quests in the Void Shadows DLC, as it can only be started while in the Rykad system - once you’re done with Act 1 it’ll become unavailable, so you’ll either need to start a new playthrough or reload an earlier save to see it through - not that this quest is involved or lucrative enough to really justify either. Still, if you got into Rogue Trader late, this will give you an extra side quest to play through.

Complete the prologue and when you’re on the Voidship Bridge, interact with the Koronus Expanse Map to switch to the system map, where you can travel about the Rykad system with your voidship. Fly around aimlessly and eventually your travel will be interrupted by Zacchary Weisz, the Choirmaster of your voidship’s Astropathic Choir. He’ll tell you about a scream in the Immaterium emanating from Astropathic Station VX-02-537, which is churning the Immaterium to the point where it’s interfering with your Astropath’s ability to decipher messages. In other words, anything from outside the Rykad system is incommunicado while this wail persists. Agree to ”…pay a visit to that station.” to start this quest.

After Zacchary Weisz contacts you, explore Astropathic Station VX-02-537 and pick the [Lore (Warp)] option,

and you’ll get the Denial of Nightmares relic.

Investigate the Astropathic Station

Travel to Astropathic Station VX-02-537 and when you interact with it you’ll get three options. Pick the option Deploy a scouting team. to get plenty more options. If you choose to Order the station to be explored or Order that the man be put out of his misery., nothing productive will happen. If you choose Burn everything. or Seal the station… you will earn some EXP and complete the quest, albeit not very satisfactorily.

The best option is to pick the [Lore (Warp)] option, which will send Zacchary Weisz to the station. This will get you some extra EXP and your Choirmaster will bring back the Denial of Nightmares amulet, which gives any psykers who wear it immunity to the Horrors of the Warp effect - a passable boon when encountering daemons. After Zacchary’s expedition you can then torpedo the station or leave it behind to an eternity of suffering, both of which will net you some more EXP.

All in all, a pretty short and simple dialog-based quest that, if completed correctly, will earn you a trinket and some bonus EXP.
