Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty

How To Beat Tigers In Wo Long

Jacob Woodward

Wo Long is a pretty tough game that, like other Soulslike titles, throws a bunch of bosses at you to test your skills both in an attacking and defensive sense. While these will be the main focal point of your efforts, there are in fact some other tough enemies that could take you some time to conquer.

The rabid tiger is one of these, also known as Chang Gui, who look to really halt your progress through various missions so knowing the right strategies to defeat them are key.

Luckily for you, we’ll be providing a number of tips for defeating these tigers so that you can reach that next Battle Flag and actually get to the most important part of the mission - any bosses that are left in your path.

How To Beat Tigers In Wo Long: Chang Gui Tips

If you haven’t already, you’ll soon find out that you’ll encounter a tiger in the first mission of Wo Long, and if you’re not prepared, you’re going to be stuck for some time on it. The reason why is two fold; you’ll likely have a lower Morale Rank than it, and the fast nature of its attacks requires some skill to either parry or dodge.

First off though, before you even engage a tiger, your first port of call is to try and get a Fatal Blow off by sneaking up on it. In the first mission, this is quite an easy task since it will be feasting on something, allowing you to slow walk behind it and get an initial blow off. In subsequent Chang Gui encounters, you’ll be less lucky, and instead, you’ll likely have to have increased your stealth abilities to enable a Fatal Blow.

Intitiating the fight with Chang Gui with a Fatal Blow

If you’ve managed to get an initial Fatal Blow off, perfect, you’re off to the best start possible. But now, unfortunately, comes the hard part.

Once the tiger starts attacking, our first recommendation is to start dodging rather than parrying just simply because these attacks come in thick and fast. Learn their patterns, and potentially start to parry when the more long range attacks come in, or ones that have no follow up. We’d certainly recommend completely getting out of the way of its own Fatal Blow as it’s almost impossible to parry, especially if you have low Spirit.

If you’re managing to either dodge or parry, you will have opportunities to attack yourself, but only do these sparingly because as previously stated, you will see that the tiger swipes come in thick and fast.

Successfully parrying a slower tiger attack

Dodging can also encourage the tiger to focus on your ally, giving you more of a window to either heal or attempt to get a few attacks off, so it is also a good idea to dodge and move back a little to see if that occurs.

In terms of weapons, we’d probably recommend a faster striking blade over a heavier weapon because even though it’ll do less damage, it’s almost a requirement with an enemy such as Chang Gui as it will be even quicker than yourself.

Finally, if you are in an environment which can provide some extra damage to the Chang Gui, you can certainly use it to your advantage.

Cheesing the tiger by inflicting damage using the fire

For example, the first time you fight one in the first mission, if you can bait it over to the fire, and if it lands in there, it will start to inflict tick damage, knocking that health down quite a bit. This is a little bit of a cheese strategy but if it helps, who’s complaining?
