Metaphor: ReFantazio

Metaphor: ReFantazio Berserker Archetype

By
Echo Apsey

The Berserker is another of the basic Archetypes in Metaphor: ReFantazio. It features a host of Skills centered on powerful crushing and striking attacks that can render enemy resistances useless or improve its own resistances. By default it is highly weak to both Dark and Light damage, while resistant to all forms of physical damage: Strike, Piercing, and Slash.

Progressing with the Berserker will allow you to unlock its Adept form: the Destroyer. The Berserker Archetype is quite specialized when compared to the other classes in the game. Therefore, you want to be sure you have the right party lineup.

How to unlock the Berserker Archetype

The Berserker Archetype is unlocked on the Gauntlet Runner. Here you can talk to Bassilioto reach Rank 1 with his bond. This will then allow you to purchase the Berserker with MAG for you and your party members.

Berserker Skills

The Berserker has access to these Skills:

  • Combat Specialization - [Hero Passive] Being hit will not trigger enemy advantage in Squad Battle. Recovers HP when stunning or knocking out an enemy.
  • Slam Strike - Deals medium physical Strike damage to one enemy (10 MP)
  • Charge - Greatly increases caster’s physical attack damage once per battle (15 MP)
  • Slam Shatter - Deals medium physical Strike damage to all enemies (24 MP)
  • Sense of Kinship - [Passive] Increases attack by 10%. Attack increases further if Archetypes of the same Lineage are present.
  • War Cry - Decreases attack/defense for all enemies for 3 turns (40 MP)
  • Frenzy - Deals heavy physical Strike damage to all enemies 1-3 times (52 MP)

Out of all of these skills the damage dealing Strike attacks are the most powerful and can take advantage of a lot of enemy weaknesses. This is also the most consistent melee damage when taking on weak, unprotected enemies. The buffs are also handy, alongside the debilitations for your team, which can turn the tide of a battle and give you the upper hand in a fight if timed right.

Berserker Synthesis Skills

The Berserker has access to these Synthesis Skills:

  • Rampage Slash - Deals extreme Physical damage to one enemy. Ignores resistances (18 MP) [Allies needed: Warrior, Brawler, or Berserker Lineages]
  • Wild Bore - Deals extreme physical Pierce damage to one enemy. Significantly decreases their attack for 3 turns. (20 MP) [Allies needed: Gunner, Faker, or Summoner Lineages]
  • Wanton Destruction - Deals extreme physical Strike damage to one enemy. Inflicts a one-time weakness to Strike (20 MP) [Allies needed: Knight, Healer, or Commander Lineages]
  • Battlecry Tackle - Deals heavy physical Strike damage to all enemies 1-3 times. Ignores resistances (28 MP) [Allies needed: Seeker, Knight, or Commander Lineages]

Being able to tear through resistances with these Synthesis Skills is the real strength of them and they all do extreme or heavy damage meaning you can use these skills as your main damage output with this Archetype. You will just want to stock up on all the MP restoration items where you can though, as these skills can eat through your MP in a dungeon.
