Ben Chard

There are 14 Follower Bonds to unlock in Metaphor: ReFantazio, with eight ranks for each of them. Some of the Bonds you’ll have to do a bit more work to unlock, while some will come automatically. Gallica’s Bond is one that you’ll get automatically as part of the story, but what are her abilities and Archetypes that she unlocks? Keep reading to find out!

Gallica is your trusty sidekick in Metaphor: Refantazio and her Bond unlocks the Mage Archetype.

Unlocking the Gallica Follower Bond

You won’t have to do too much to get your hands on Gallica’s Bond, in fact, it will be the second one you’ll obtain in Metaphor: ReFantazio and you’ll get it automatically. As you play through the Prologue, on 6/6, you’ll head through the Nord Mines in a mad dash to get back to Grand Trad after the events at the Fort. As you head just beyond the entrance, you’ll be forced into a battle against Klinger, where Strohl’s Archetype will awaken. Following your victory, you’ll unlock not only Gallica’s Bond, but also Strohl’s at the same time.

Gallica’s Bond storyline is directly tied to Metaphor’s main storyline and will rank up automatically at intervals throughout. As such, it will lag behind some of the others for a while, unlocking the Mage Elite Archetypes quite late into the adventure.

You can Rank Up Gallica’s Bond through the story such as completing the dungeons.

Gallica Rank up Events and Abilities

There are a total of eight Rank Up events for Gallica and none of them are missable, they are part of the main story. The table below will detail how to get each Rank for Gallica and the ability it unlocks.

Rank Conditions Abilities
1 Automatically on 6/6 Mage Archetype
2 Automatically on 6/11 Mage Enlightenment (decreases MAG cost to study), Follower’s Echoes (hear Followers voice from far away)
3 Automatically after the story events in Martira Mage Archetype: Adept (Unlocks Wizard), Monsterology Scholar (more detail to analysis in battle)
4 Automatically after completing the Infiltration of the Charadrius in Brilehaven Scion’s Skill (Mage Skill Inheritance Slots to 2), Fae Sight Acuity (Fae Sight gives more detail in dungeons)
5 Automatically after the events at Louis’ soirée in Brilehaven Mage Veneration (significantly decreases MAG cost to study)
6 Automatically after the events at the Dragon God Temple on Virga Island Scion’s Merit (Mage Skill Inheritance Slots to 3)
7 Automatically on 9/23 Scion’s Essence (Mage Skill Inheritance Slots to 4)
8 Automatically on 9/24 Mage Archetype: Elite (Unlocks Elemental Master and Warlock), Victory Foresight (May get extra turns during battle)

Rank 1 Ability - Mage Archetype

This will unlock the Mage Archetype for any character to learn in Akademia (or from the main menu when unlocked), a powerful back-row Archetype that uses the power of the elements to assault their foe. Mage’s are always useful, as being able to hit Fire, Ice, and Electric weaknesses means you’ll be able to take advantage of the vast majority of enemies you come across, especially early on.

Rank 2 Abilities - Mage Enlightenment and Follower’s Echoes

Although it becomes a bit easier to get later in the adventure, early on, MAG is a precious resource that is used to not only unlock an Archetype for a character, but also unlock Skills to Inherit. With Mage Enlightenment, it will decrease how much it costs to unlock any Mage Archetype (so Wizard, Elemental Master, and Warlock) for any character, very handy.

Follower’s Echoes is a useful quality of life ability, it will allow you to see if a Follower has a Rank Up event available and then instantly teleport to their location. Once you unlock this early on, it will become second nature on any free day.

Rank 3 Abilities - Mage Archetype: Adept and Monsterology Scholar

Once Gallica’s Bond reaches Rank 3, you’ll unlock the Adept Archetype for the Mage Tree, the Wizard. You’ll need to ensure you have the Mage at Rank 20 first, along with the requisite MAG before you can change into it however. In battle, the Mage is more of the same, but stronger, giving you access to the higher-tier elemental spells and synthesis abilities. You’ll also be required to rank up the Wizard to unlock other advanced Archetypes from other trees.

Monsterology Scholar, on the other hand, gives you more details about your enemies in battle. Now, you’ll be able to see what skills a defeated enemy may use against you and what items they have to steal, handy timing considering you will have unlocked the ability to steal at this point of the adventure.

Rank 4 Abilities - Scion’s Skill and Fae Sight Acuity

The first of the Scion skills will increase the Skill Inheritance Slots to 2 whenever you’re on a Mage Archetype (any of them), this gives you more freedom in how you build your characters (such as grabbing the Wind spells from the Seeker Archetypes).

Fae Sight Acuity will improve Gallica’s scanning ability in dungeons, highlight items from a greater range and giving you more details on the enemy encounters you can expect if you go into a Squad Battle.

Rank 5 Ability - Mage Veneration

This is the upgrade to Mage Enlightenment and as such, significantly decreases the MAG cost to study any Mage Archetype. This will make it so the base Archetype costs very little to unlock while the higher ranks become a bit more manageable (still expect just under 20,000 MAG for the Elite Archetypes however).

(1 of 2) You’ll unlock the Wizard Archetype when Gallica’s Bond reaches Rank 3.

You’ll unlock the Wizard Archetype when Gallica’s Bond reaches Rank 3. (left), Victory Foresight from Gallica at Rank 8 gives you a chance of gaining more turns in battle. (right)

Rank 6 and 7 Abilities - Scion’s Merit and Essence

As you may deduce from the name of these abilities, both of these Ranks will add an extra Inheritance Skill Slot for a total of four, this gives you a great degree of flexibility of customization and there are some truly powerful abilities in Metaphor: ReFantazio that you can make use of.

Rank 8 Abilities - Mage Archetype: Elite and Victory Foresight

For completing all of Gallica’s Bond Ranks, you’ll unlock the final two Mage Archetypes, the Elemental Master and the Warlock. The Elemental Master will give you access to powerful Fire, Ice, and Electric spells while also decreasing the cost of Synthesis Skills and increasing your Magic Attack in general. The Warlock, on the other hand, will give you access to a powerful Dark spell but gives some great passives on preserving MP along with the best Magic buff spell in the game.

Victory Foresight will make it so at times in battle, Gallica will grant you an extra turn. How often this happens may be tied to the Luck stat (we need to this out more) but this is incredibly useful, especially during intense moments where you may need to pop a Medica or revive an ally.

There you have it, how to unlock all of Gallica’s abilities in Metaphor: ReFantazio, you’ll have to wait until the closing stages of the adventure to unlock the powerful Elite Archetypes, but Gallica will provide some quality of life that are not to be scoffed at.
