Metaphor: ReFantazio

Best Ways to Farm Money

By
Jarrod Garripoli

Money is always going to be an issue in most RPGs, especially one where you can easily spend it all on new equipment, like in Metaphor: ReFantazio. There are a few ways in which you can net yourself a small fortune, although you will need to do a few things first. Note that money will be a big pain in the early stages of the game, but as you delve deeper into the story, it will become a lot easier to save it.

MAG Trader

One of the services you will find in Grand Trad, the starting city, is a MAG Trader. Basically, MAG is the currency used for anything related to Archetypes, whether it’s unlocking new ones for your character or inheriting skills. However, these MAG Traders essentially allow you to trade in MAG for money. There are a few catches, though, as the rate is variable and won’t always be the same. The rate at which MAG can be converted to money depends solely on the weather. The worst the weather, the better the exchange rate will be on MAG.

(1 of 4) The MAG Vendors are great, if you have an excess of it.

In Grand Trad, this can go as high as three times towards the beginning of the game, so if you trade 5,000 MAG, you will receive 25,000 Reeves. You can also further enhance the exchange rate for these traders by leveling up the Merchant Bond. You do get two boosts to the MAG rate as you level up the bond, one at Rank 3 and another at Rank 6. So, if you ever feel like you have a lot of extra MAG, trade some in to line your pockets even more.

Merchant Archetype

For the other method of making money on this page, you will need to first unlock the Merchant Archetype. This can be done by having a Bond with Brigitte, who is by the Igniter Shop in Grand Trad. You need Wisdom at Rank 2 before she will give you a side quest, titled A Bullish Embargo. The side quest will have you going through a challenging dungeon, Belega Corridor, and defeat the Guptauros at the end. This is no easy feat, as the boss hits hard, so don’t be afraid to come back later, when you are a little more powerful.

With the Merchant Archetype in hand, make sure you unlock it for the main character. You are doing this because the protagonist has a special passive skill with every class in the game. For Merchant, the passive skill the protagonist has will net you some money whenever you stun/defeat an enemy on the overworld. Stunning an enemy is not ideal for this, but defeating them on the overworld can help you easily get some decent money. In particular, you want to find a spot with a lot of enemies you can easily defeat on the overworld.

(1 of 3) Go to this spot in the Abandoned Tomb, near Martira.

Belega Corridor is a great one that’s available early in the game, although you need to go there in order to unlock the Merchant Archetype. It’s probably for the best to not waste days, just in case, but there will be other dungeons later that can be used for this. To be specific, the Abandoned Tomb is one such dungeon, which is available when you start the side quest titled A Dagger, a Ring, and a Rake in Martira. There will be a large group of lower-level enemies along the right side of the dungeon, all gathered together. You will want to do this side quest, too, since it will give you an Archetype upon completion.

It’s a good idea to do the dungeon first, so you have everything unlocked, then you can run around after and farm the money from the enemies above. After defeating them all (try to ignore the Lich enemy, since it’s annoying and strong), run to the northern save point, enter Akademia, then return to the dungeon to respawn the group of enemies. You should be getting around 5-6k each time you run this and it doesn’t really take too long (90 seconds or so, if you’re good enough). The Merchant Archetype will also net you a bunch of item drops from these mobs, which you can then appraise and sell for more, if needed.
