Metaphor: ReFantazio

Fatolich, Lamentable Dead

By
Jarrod Garripoli

Bounties are strong enemies that you will have to usually hunt down in some manner in Metaphor: ReFantazio. When you reach Brilehaven, you will unlock a new bounty named Fatolich, who will be found in the Tomb of Lament. Before you set out for this bounty, make sure you also start The Chalice vs. The Brew side quest, as it also involves defeating the Fatolich to retrieve the Chalice of Legends.

You will find the Fatolich bounty at the end of the Tomb of Lament.

Fatolich Bounty Location

When you first reach Port Brilehaven, you will have to do some story bits before you can get to having free time. Once you do, which should be on July 23rd, you can visit any of the recruiters in the game to find the bounty for Fatolich has been posted. This will also unlock the Tomb of Lament, which is located to the northwest of Brilehaven. However, it’s best to wait until you set off, as there is a side quest that is related to this bounty.

In the Arenafront Wharf area, you can find a NPC that will ask you to retrieve the Chalice of Legends. Naturally, the chalice is found in the Tomb of Lament, and it’s actually in the hands of the Fatolich itself, so you won’t have to do anything extra. It’s also a good idea to grab all the other quests in Brilehaven and go a full circle around the area, since these places take a lot of time to reach with your runner. Before making the trek through the Tomb of Lament, make sure you purchase the tips from the Informant to get the necessary info.

Fatolich Boss Strategy

The following list of skills are all of the abilities you will likely see during the battle.

(1 of 6) Soul Cry will give the Fatolich two more Turn Icons to use.

  • Soul Cry: Fatolich will use this to gain two additional Turn Icons.
  • Summon: The boss will summon a Chimenza. Can only do this once.
  • Deiamahan: The Chimenza can use this to heal the boss
  • Mudodyne: Heavy Dark damage to a single target.
  • Hyper: Greatly increases caster’s next magic attack damage.
  • Mamudo: Deals weak Dark damage to all characters.
  • Curse Chant: Chance to inflict Hex on all characters.
  • Mudoon: Deals medium Dark damage to a single character.

The Fatolich starts off alone, but that won’t stay like that for long. On your first turn, you can try to do some damage to the boss, but it will use Soul Cry to gain two Turn Icons on its first action, then summon the Chimenza immediately after that. The Chimenza will then use the other action on Deiamahan, which heals the Fatolich. Note that once the Chimenza appears, you should fully focus on defeating it as quickly as possible, as the Fatolich will be stronger as long as it’s alive. The Chimenza is weak to wind, while the Fatolich is weak to light.

Thankfully, this isn’t the same Chimenza you have fought previously, as it only seems to do normal attacks on your party. However, to be on the safe side, you probably don’t want anyone weak to fire or lightning, either. The boss will also only summon the Chimenza once, so after defeating it the first time, it won’t be coming back to haunt you. As for the Fatolich, it mainly uses Dark-based magic, with access to both single target and party-wide spells.

(1 of 3) The Fatolich will be weak to light elemental attacks.

When it uses Hyper, which boosts the next magical attack, it will most likely be using Mudodyne. Outside of that, though, it will use any of the Dark attacks, so you never really know what’s going to happen. Whenever the Fatolich uses Soul Cry a second time, then that means Curse Chant is coming. This is an attempt to put Hex on all of your character and if it misses everyone the first time, it will try a second. Hex is bad here, not only because you receive half of the damage you deal, but also because it makes Dark-elemental attacks stronger, so heal it as soon as possible.
