Sabers Guide: Unlocking all Weapons and Seneschal Statues
Greatswords Guide: Unlocking all Weapon and Seneschal Statues
There are seven weapon types in Blades of Fire, and each weapon type has five different weapons, which can be unlocked by defeating specific enemies. On top of the weapons, there are numerous parts for the weapon that can be unlocked; this is done by finding and unlocking Seneschals. Read on to find out how to unlock all weapons for the Sword and where you can find the Seneschals for them.
The Sword is a jack of all trades, master of none type weapon.

Sword Playstyle¶
Technically, the first sword you’ll use is Dorian’s Sword, however, this is just a starter weapon that you receive near the beginning of the game, and it isn’t part of the list of swords you can unlock. Let’s take a look at the general stats for the sword below.
| Category | Rating |
|---|---|
| Speed | 2 |
| Recovery | 3 |
| Advance | 1 |
| Damage | 2 |
| Stagger | 2 |
| Strike Area | 2 |
All the ratings above are out of three, so as you can see, the sword is your jack of all trades, master of none type of weapon. It’s above average for almost all the stats except Recovery, where it’s at 3, and Advance, which sits at 1.
What this means is that the sword has quick attacks, but it won’t reach the speed of the Daggers or Sabers. It has respectable damage, stagger, and strike area, but suffers from its Advance. In general, the sword may not specialize in anything, but it is a weapon you can rely on.
Sword Unlocks¶
As we briefly talked about earlier, there are five swords in total, each requiring you to defeat a certain number of enemies before you can craft it. Some of these enemies won’t be available to much further in the game, meaning you won’t be able to unlock some of these weapons until much later on. In the table below, you’ll find each Sword you can unlock as well as what enemies you need to kill for it.
| Weapon | Required Enemies |
|---|---|
| Defeat 5 Queen’s Soldiers with swords in |
|
| Defeat 10 Sacred Steel Templars | |
| Defeat 30 |
|
| Defeat Vohroo (part of the story) | |
| Defeat 30 higher rank |
Army Sword¶
The Army Sword is obtained early in the game.
| Styles | Characteristics |
|---|---|
| Slashing/Piercing | Bottom Heavy (-Momentum, +Parry, + Stamina) and Block (+Block, -Stamina) |
The
Army Sword can be unlocked more or less at the start of the game. You will need to defeat five Queen’s Soldiers, and
Besacarr Hamlet, where you start, is full of them. Defeat the five Queen’s Soldiers, head to the Forge, and craft your first sword. As the Army Sword shines more as a defensive weapon due to its enhanced Block and Parry, it’s best to focus your best materials on parts that enhance this by selecting the following parts when forging the weapon:
- Blade: 32“
- Cross Section: Straight/Convex/Concave Fuller
- Guard: Medium
- Pommel: Doesn’t matter, but no pommel will decrease the stamina cost of dodge, thus giving you another defensive option.
If you’re limited on materials, put them in the Blade and Guard sections. For the materials, you’ll want to lean on the defensive materials, which are towards the bottom left of the material triangle.
Eastern Sword¶
The Eastern Sword is a Katana that favors quick-slashing attacks.
| Styles | Characteristics |
|---|---|
| Slashing/Piercing | Light (-Momentum, +Stamina, +Dodge) Bottom Heavy (-Momentum, +Parry, + Stamina) Block (+Block, -Stamina) Curved (+Laceration, -Penetration) |
The
Eastern Sword is a bit more difficult to unlock, as you’ll need to defeat ten Sacred Steel Templars. These are petrified enemies that appear as stone statues and must be attacked to get them to break their stone shells. Some of their shells can only be broken by finding and following an Iridescent Crow, who’ll break it for you. You won’t find any of these enemies until you reach either
Kar-Lethel Swamp or
The Crimson Fort.
For the sword itself, it’s a Katana, and who doesn’t love Katanas? Unlike the Army Sword, this weapon is best used with a Parry/Dodge playstyle as its Block is on the lower side. Although the weapon is best used in its slashing style due to the quick slashes, it has good reach with its thrust style. When building this weapon, focus your best materials on Parry, Dodge Cost reduction, and Damage Slashing, although don’t ignore Penetration. Here’s how we’d build it:
- Blade: 36“
- Cross Section: Concave
- Guard: Small
This will give you the best match for the aforementioned stats, allowing you to get the best of the weapon.
Kora¶
The Kora has one Slashing style with good Blocking potential.
| Styles | Characteristics |
|---|---|
| Slashing | Weighted (+Momentum, -Stamina, -Dodge) Block (+Block, -Stamina) Curved (+Laceration, -Penetration) Hooked (-Penetration, +Parry) |
The
Kora is an unusual weapon, giving you just the Slashing style. To unlock this weapon, you’ll need to defeat 30
Phantom Gladiators, which you won’t find until you reach Dorens Grave, but when you do get there, you’ll find plenty of them. This weapon is favored for its defense and high stopping power, but it lacks mobility. For this reason, you’ll want to build for Slashing and Block, and to a lesser extent, Damage Cost reduction. Here is how we’d build the Kora:
- Blade: 44“ Hooked
- Cross Section: Concave Fuller
- Guard: Big
- Pommel: Medium
This will give you a nice match between the aforementioned stats, allowing you to swing more hits before recharging your stamina, a good enough block to withstand attacks, and a powerful slashing attack.
Rapier¶
The Rapier is the Parry weapon of Swords.
| Styles | Characteristics |
|---|---|
| Slashing | Light (-Momentum, +Stamina, +Dodge) Bottom Heavy (-Momentum, +Parry, +Stamina) Block (+Block, -Stamina) Ricasso (+Block, +Parry, -Sharpening) |
The
Rapier is the opposite of Kora, where the latter can only slash, the former only has the option to thrust, but it does it well. This weapon will get unlocked automatically when progressing the story, as you’ll get it after defeating a boss, which you’ll find in the Kar-Lethel Swamp (not the first time you’re here). If there were a parry weapon in the game, this would be it, where you’ll want to parry attacks, and counterattack with fast thrusting attacks to take down your enemies. As you would expect, when building the weapon, emphasize Parry and Piercing, with a bit of Stamina. Here’s how we’d build the Rapier:
- Blade: 40“ Ricasso
- Cross Section: Concave Fuller
- Guard: Small
- Pommel: Small (more stamina) Big (more damage)
Building it this way will give you the perfect Parry weapon with devastating counterattacks. You won’t use this weapon all the time, but it is useful against enemies such as the Sacred Steel Templars.
Ida¶
The Ida is the weapon you choose if damage is your only concern.
| Styles | Characteristics |
|---|---|
| Slashing | Weighted (+Momentum, -Stamina, -Dodge) Top Heavy (+Momentum, -Parry, -Stamina) Block (+Block, -Stamina) |
The
Ida favors damage over defense, where you’re happy to trade attacks until one of you falls. Its unmatched attack is offset by its lackluster defense, where missing the timing of an attack could leave you in peril. You’ll unlock the Ida when you defeat 30 of the higher-tier Queen’s Army Soldiers (sword users), which you won’t fight until you reach Tok’s Kingdom. When you do reach this place, you’ll fight these enemies as soon as you start exploring it. There’s no other way to build this weapon other than focusing on damage, meaning Slashing and Piercing. If you can, add some Stamina for more attacks before you need to recharge it, but don’t choose this over damage. Here’s how we’d build the Ida:
- Blade: 40“
- Cross Section: Concave Fuller
- Guard: Medium
- Pommel: Small
Building Ida this way keeps the weapon doing what it’s best at, which is dealing high damage.
All Sword Statue Locations¶
Throughout your adventure, you’ll encounter statues, known as Seneschals, that, when presented with a weapon belonging to that type, will unlock a new part to use in the forging process. You can see on the Forger’s Scroll screen how many parts a weapon can unlock, and you will only gain a part for the weapon presented. The table below will show you where to find all the Sword Seneschals.
| Number | Location |
|---|---|
| 1 | |
| 2 | |
| 3 | |
| 4 | |
| 5 | |
| 6 | Tok’s Kingdom - |
| 7 | Tok’s Kingdom - The Eigon’s Abbey: After using the Time Rune on the west side, keep going to find it in the corridor |
| 8 | Tok’s Kingdom - |
| 9 | |
| 10 | |
| 11 | Tok’s Kingdom - |
That’s it for all the Swords in Blade of Fire, and everything else you could want to know about the Sword weapon type.
