How to Upgrade the Blacksmith - All Lymbic Forging Book Locations

As you progress through the main story of Hell is Us, you’ll come across Victor Gaz. Victor is the Blacksmith in the game, who’ll give you the options to upgrade your weapons, defensive gear, and create consumables. However, you can only upgrade a specific number of times before you’ll need to upgrade him. Read on to find out how you can upgrade Victor, and where you can find the upgrades.

Blacksmith Location¶

Before you can upgrade the blacksmith, you’ll need to find him first. You can find Victor, the blacksmith, in the second explorable area, Acasa Marshes. As you need to find him to progress the story, you can’t miss him, but you can unlock him earlier if you head straight over to him. When you enter Acasa Marshes for the first time, your APC will be in the forest. Follow the linear path into the marshes and go across the northern wooden bridge.

Continue northwest across the marshes, and you’ll get to a road just outside the town, Jova. On the road, go across the bridge to the northeast and stay on the road until you cross the second bridge next to the pylon. Stay on the road and follow it north until you reach the clearing, and if you look to your right, you’ll find a tunnel. Head inside the tunnel, defeat the enemies, and make your way to the back of the tunnel to find a door on your right. Enter the room to find the blacksmith, Victor. You’ll need to do a favor for him first (enter Vitalis’ home), but after you do that, he’ll appear in Jova, opposite Vitalis’ home, when you come back.

How to Upgrade the Blacksmith¶

To upgrade Victor, you’ll need to find Lymbic Forging Books. There are four in total, and each one will increase how high you can upgrade your equipment as well as what consumables you can craft. Simply, stand near Victor, select study, and hand him the books. Each time you hand him one, the better his capabilities become.

All Lymbic Forging Book Locations¶

As mentioned above, there are four Lymbic Forging books, read below to find out where to find each one. Note that we have found the Advanced and Ancient Books in different places. For example, we’ve found the Ancient book in the Plains of Mist and Auriga. The same goes for the Advanced, where we found it at the top of Arcas Spire and the Plains of Mist. If you don’t find the Ancient book at the Temple of the Fallen, it’ll be in Auriga Museum.

Lymbic Imbuing Book Location¶

The first book you’ll find is the Lymbic Imbuing Book. This is located in a Car Trunk in Acasa Marshes. Exit Jova via the north exit into the marshes and take the wooden bridges over the marsh near the science camp towards the ruin. Kill the enemies near the ruin on the northern edge of the marsh, and you should find a car partially sunk in the marsh. This is locked and requires the Key Item: Keys - Car, which can be found on the balcony in Vitalis’ Home. This is part of Victor’s Vigil Good Deed for which we have a full guide for. Once you have the book, tell Victor to study it to upgrade the blacksmith.

Fundamentals of Lymbic Forging Book Location¶

For the next book, you’ll need to go to Lake Cynon. To get this book, you’ll need to complete the Lake Cynon Reservoir Puzzle to gain entrance to the Lymbic Forge. This is the final dungeon of Act 1, and will void some Good Deeds, so make sure you’ve done everything in Acasa Marshes before you finish it. At the bottom of the forge is a coffin that can be opened up by using the nearby lever. Inside, you’ll find the book.

Advanced Lymbic Forging Book Location¶

You’ll need to go to the Arcas Spire in the Senedra Forest to find the Advanced book. This area is on the path when you’re hunting for the Keystone, so you’ll have to come here anyway. The book itself is at the very top of the spire, at the end of the grand staircase. You’ll get it by interacting with the door to the roof.

Ancient Lymbic Forging Book Location¶

The last book is located in the Temple of the Fallen. This requires you to progress the story to the part where you’re hunting down the Ecstasy Keystone in Act 2. Make your way through the area until you complete the second pressure pad puzzle. If you’re having trouble with these, read our Temple of the Fallen Door and Pressure Puzzles Walkthrough, which will take you through the whole dungeon. After completing the second puzzle, continue into the next room and take care of the enemies inside. At the top of the stairs before the next door is a Lymbic Puzzle to your left and a chest to your right. The chest will contain the final blacksmith book.
