This page takes you through the third rift of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, Wayward Minds. This is the penultimate rift, which replaces the modern-day storyline of the original with a new narrative about an AI called ‘Ego’ within the Animus experience.

Wayward Minds is unlocked after completing the Sequence 11 mission …Everything is Permitted. This is the final mission of the sequence, but you won’t receive a notification that this quest is unlocked - you need to go find and find the entrance first.

As this is a late-game rift, it features major spoilers for some of the narrative. You have been warned.

Rift 3: Wayward Minds walkthrough

You can find Wayward Minds at the northwest tip of Sacrifice Island, at the coordinates (14,559). As you approach, the familiar purple waypoint will appear, signalling that it’s ready to access. If it doesn’t appear, you might be too early.

The location of the rift for Wayward Minds on Sacrifice Island… sounds like a lovely place.

The third rift asks the question of “What if Mary Read quit being an assassin?”, following her death. After starting the mission, you’ll be insulted by Ego, who is clearly frustrated that you keep experiencing Edward’s life despite her interventions.

You’ll be given the chance to “let out” your frustration by shooting a bunch of enemies. Don’t use the quick skill - instead, aim through the gate at each enemy and fire at them. Eventually, the gates will open, and more enemies will appear.

After this, you’re forced to give up your pistols at a grave. As you kill and fight, you’ll eventually come to an enemy near a wall that you’ll need to climb to access the manor. If you kill him and climb, the game will send you back. You need to leave him alive to show you’re “learning” Ego’s lessons.

Later, you’ll be forced to give up your swords before being popped into a stealth-only section. There’s a floating spotlight that will kill you instantly if you’re caught, and you’ll die if you’re spotted by guards. Use the tall grass and hay stacks to avoid desynchronisation.

The second spotlight you’ll come up to is ridiculously fast, so it requires careful timing in order to avoid both the guards and the deadly light. Go along the left verges of tall grass, and keep an eye on the guard to your right. They all eventually turn and walk away, so he won’t stick around for long.

Following this, you’ll eventually come to the end of the mission. There are no boss fights here, like the one found in Rift 2. Instead, it’s a more Rift 1-like experience, although with an instant death section. How fun.

The reward for Wayward Minds is a letter, called “Don’t Forget Your Old Shipmate”

Rift 3: Wayward Minds rewards

You’re now one step closer to receiving the 300 Animus Keys for completing all of the rifts, as well as receiving a letter called “Don’t Forget Your Old Shipmate”. That concludes the third rift, leading into the final one, True Purpose.
