Lucy Baldwin is one of the first optional Officers you can recruit in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. Completing her questline unlocks the Shipwright role aboard the Jackdaw and eventually grants the strongest defensive naval abilities in the game.
Lucy’s questline is split into four quests: A Proper Shipwright, The One with the Gun, Plantain!, and Big Wig. It isn’t required to complete all of these quests to recruit Lucy, but you’ll want to complete them to finish her storyline.
A Proper Shipwright walkthrough¶
To unlock the ‘A Proper Shipwright’ mission, you’ll first need to complete Sequence 4: This Old Cove, in which Adéwalé will ask Edward’s support in finding new Officers to manage the Jackdaw’s crew. He mentions Lucy Baldwin, a shipwright who has been imprisoned near Salt Key Bank.
Fast travel to the quest marker at the following coordinates (465,608), then look towards a large rock formation just near the docks. Using your spyglass, you’ll spot the prison ship, which you’ll need to swim to and climb up. Sorry, no cannon fights just yet.

After dispatching the guards on deck, head to the green quest marker to head into the hold, where further guards await you. Once you’ve defeated them, a small cutscene will play, where a reluctant Lucy accepts Edward’s help in escaping the British.
Of course, it’s not as simple as that. Once you leave the hold, a British fleet will appear, forcing you to complete a naval battle before it’s smooth sailing. Defeat the group of ships, which don’t put up too much of a fight, and Lucy will agree to join your crew - after a drink, of course.
The One with the Gun walkthrough¶
Head to the Great Inagua’s tavern to meet up with Lucy, where she’s enjoying a drink before you give her a tour of the island. As you pass through the town, you’ll need to carry a crate of plantain as you take Lucy towards the manor. She’ll explain the story of how her father accused her of her grandfather’s murder, before stealing the inheritance for himself.
Next, you’ll need to plot a course for Black Island, with the quest marker found at (913,611). Upon boarding the Jackdaw, you’ll receive a pop-up explaining how to use Perfect Brace, Lucy’s unique skill that, when used correctly, can almost entirely nullify incoming damage to the ship. All you need to do is brace just as enemy fire lands.
Head to the destination, defeating the three schooners that appear (and offer a great way to test your new ability), before following along the quest until Lucy splits off. Head to the manor, finding the Barrister’s Letter and the Last Will and Testament on the ground floor and first floor, respectively. After you’ve got these, Edward will hear commotion at the barn, so race off to find Lucy.

Another cutscene will begin, in which Lucy and her father have an intense fight that ends with him being shot. After this, you’re free to explore the island further or hop on the Jackdaw to leave.
Plantain! walkthrough¶
This is a small quest that can be started at the tavern in Great Inagua. Edward and Lucy will speak before the latter initiates a race to the manor. You don’t need to win the race to progress the quest - but you can use it to show off your racing skills.
After another quick cutscene, Lucy will gift Edward her grandfather’s golden pistols, which you can then equip in the inventory menu. These are solid beginner’s pistols, ones that fare better than the first pair you get, but aren’t as strong as the weapons found in the Deluxe Edition or the later part of the game.
Big Wig walkthrough¶
Lucy’s final quest will take you to Havana, where Lucy will ask you to follow her to her grandfather’s old cabin, where the Barrister may be hiding the gold.
As you reach the quest location, you’ll need to fight off some enemies near an overturned rowboat. Once they’re defeated, you’ll need to find the buried treasure, which will pop up if you take too long to find it. However, to find it, stand near the rowboat, facing the sea, and turn to the right, heading up a sandy path, before digging up the treasure. Another cutscene will play, where Lucy finds an old locket her mother owned.
Once you’ve completed Big Wig, this concludes Lucy’s questline, making her an official member of the Jackdaw crew and adding a talented Shipwright to your adventure.
