Find the side quest “Monkey Business” along the southeastern edge of Havana, just off the docks.
You’ll know you’re in the right place when you hear some dock workers speaking of the monkey’s plight as you approach.
Starting Monkey Business¶
Before you can adorn the deck of The Jackdaw with pets, you’ll have to progress the main questline until you complete the quest This Old Cove. Once done you’ll have established a hideout on New Inagua and two new pet side quests will become available, including Cat Distribution System on New Inagua itself and Monkey Business, which is found back in Havana.
To start this quest you’ll need to head to the southeastern edge of Havana to find a Spanish ship anchored in the waters a short distance from the docks - just look for the quest marker to find it.
You can thin the Spaniards on the deck if you wish, or just go in and slaughter them without subtlety.
Once the Spaniards are gone, interact with poor Albert the Monkey to get a new pet.
How to Find Albert the Monkey¶
Make your way to the southeastern edge of Havana to find the ship - you’ll know you’re in the right place if some dock workers start talking about the plight of the poor monkey, it’s murdered master, and the cruel Spaniard who now holds the fate of the poor monkey in his hands. If their gossip holds any truth, it doesn’t sound like this monkey is long for this world… and Edward is well known for his hatred of monkey cruelty! You know, except for the ones he needs to skin to upgrade his gear, anyways.
To rescue this poor simian you’ll need to swim to the Spanish ship at anchor nearby. The deck of the ship is, of course, a restricted area, and is patrolled by a handful of Spanish sailors, including a heavy weapon wielder and the captain himself, who is a bit more skilled with the sword and flintlock than the average foe. You can climb on up there and eradicate the Spaniards without a trace of subtlety, if you prefer, but you can also thin the herd a bit by doing a bit of that assassination business. Grabbing and killing enemies as they stray too close to the edge of the deck while you’re clinging to the outside of the ship is a fine solution, especially if you can pick off the heavy or the captain before boarding.
Clear the deck of Spaniards and find the monkey in the middle of the deck and interact with it. It doesn’t seem keen on leaving its slain master behind, but despite its apparent recalcitrance, you’ll still obtain Albert the Monkey as a pet. You can’t bring back its slain master, but at least you can give it a new life aboard The Jackdaw.
