This page is a walkthrough for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced’s second rift, Wayward Desires. Like the previous rift, Wayward Souls, it acts as a replacement for the modern-day storyline of the original and sees the player acting directly with the Animus itself.

You won’t unlock this Animus quest until after the Sequence 8 mission Do Not Go Gently (formerly Do Not Go Quietly). Considering the late-game nature of this side quest, this is your warning that the guide will contain spoilers for major plot elements.

Rift 2: Wayward Desires walkthrough

Unlike Wayward Souls, the second rift is far more action-oriented. You can find it just north of Nassau on a small island, at the coordinates** (604,784)**. It may be hard to spot initially, considering how small the location is, but you will find some glitchy Animus-like effects to highlight where it is.

As you enter the second Rift, it clearly puts a focus on Blackbeard, asking the player, “What if Blackbeard accepted the King’s pardon to rule Nassau?” Throughout the mission, you need to parkour across a variety of ships, while also ‘synchronising’ parts of the Animus - this is only when prompted, and is fairly simple.

You’ll gain access to a good portion of health and your standard skills, as well as four pistols for quick firing of shots. To start, you’ll have to fight a variety of enemies created by the Animus, which are mostly reskinned normal foes.

It’s worth noting that the Animus enemies are a bright off-white colour. That makes the parry and unstoppable attack glows before attacks more difficult to read than in normal battles. It’s good to use the pistols as often as possible, and to loot Remedies off blue dead NPCs. They’re frequently found, so keeping your health topped up shouldn’t be an issue.

Eventually, you’ll come face-to-face with Blackbeard himself, if the pirate was made out of code instead of flesh. This is a boss fight that requires some well-timed parries, and be prepared to dodge plenty of unblockable attacks. As he reaches 25% health, he’ll disappear, forcing you to chase him again.

Eventually, you’ll end up in an Animus version of Nassau, before fighting Blackbeard and some of his crew again. Keep at a distance and keep reloading pistols, as four to five shots knock down his defence, opening him up for a takedown. During the fight, green rings will appear around him and the arena, which are explosives, so dodge out of the way before they land.

After you defeat him, another cutscene will play, concluding the second rift of the game and marking the end of Wayward Desires.

The reward for completing the Wayward Desires mission is a new ship wheel for the Jackdaw

Rift 2: Wayward Desires rewards

After completing Wayward Desires, you’ll be one step closer to receiving the additional Animus Keys for finishing all Rifts. You’ll also unlock a Queen Anne’s Revenge wheel for the Jackdaw, allowing you to bring a part of Blackbeard with you on your journeys
