Monkey Business - Find Albert the Monkey
Rhona Dinsmore Templar Hunt
This page is a walkthrough of where to find Blackbeard’s Treasure and complete the side quest of the same name. This contains spoilers for the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced story.
To unlock this side quest, you’ll need to complete the Sequence 8 mission Do Not Go Gently (formerly Do Not Go Quietly). After finishing the mission, a small cutscene will play, granting you a map to find Blackbeard’s hidden treasure.
How to decipher Blackbeard’s map¶
If you select the side quest in the map’s quest log, no marker will appear. This is because you need to head into the ‘Codex’ menu to look at the map - if you have just received the map, it will also appear as a box at the bottom for recent entries. The map gives you a small clue of where to find Blackbeard’s Treasure, which is north of Kingston, alongside a diagram that will come in handy later.

If you’re looking to avoid the treasure hunt, you can head to (591,243), which is actually in the Charlotte region as opposed to the Kingston one. Fast travel to Kingston, get to the Jackdaw’s steering wheel, and plot a course to the above coordinates as you begin the side quest.
Blackbeard’s Treasure walkthrough¶
If you sail around the eastern side of Kingston, which is the quickest route the pathfinder will take you, you’ll soon pass a fort. If you haven’t defeated it yet, stay close to the island as you pass, and you’ll avoid a battle with the navy’s fleet. Trust us, you’ll want to preserve the Jackdaw’s health.
You’ll need to pass a fort and a restricted area as you head towards Blackbeard’s destination
As you approach the coordinates, Edward will point out that there are some other pirates looking for Blackbeard’s treasure, where a ship battle will begin. This can be quite difficult, so the best bet is to take down the smaller boats, board and use them to repair the Jackdaw, while whittling down the health of the largest ship. After defeating the pirates, you can then dock the ship at the bay.
Other pirates are looking around for any signs of gold, so assassinate them in order to avoid a fight. Or, go in cannon’s blazing, if you’d like. From there, you’ll need to dive into the water near the ship’s wreckage, heading towards some jellyfish surrounding an underwater cavern. Follow it along, dodging the shark as it appears, and before continuing along the tunnel.
After a variety of on-ground and underwater sections, you’ll eventually come to a large room with a locked chest and plenty of armed pirates. Defeat the pirates, then head towards the doorway blocked by rubble. To the left of the doorway is a small powder keg, which you can carry. Place it in front of the rubble, make some distance, and then blow it to smithereens to continue forward.
A pile of rubble stands between you and Blackbeard’s Treasure - so, use a powder keg to blow it up
Next, you’ll find yourself in a small cave with a gentle slope and a small water pool in the middle, alongside other pirates who - somehow - managed to get there. Defeat them, then head up the slope with another small powder keg found nearby. Like before, place it near the rubble, and shoot it, creating an opening, where Blackbeard’s Treasure can be found in a chest.
It turns out, Blackbeard didn’t hide any gold before his death. Instead, he used the money to buy farming equipment, in order for Great Inagua to sustain itself following Nassau’s end. You can find the treasure chest at Great Inagua, which begins another cutscene that sees pirates learning how to run a farm.
Blackbeard’s Treasure rewards¶
As it turns out, Blackbeard’s final mission for Edward isn’t his piles of gold, but a selection of farm tools. The only reward you get for completing this side quest is Blackbeard’s Portrait, as well as the good feeling of making a difference in Edward’s little homestead.
