One of many collectibles returning in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, you’ll find Mayan Stelae in ruins throughout the Caribbean. To find a stele, climb on the guide totem and line up a shape (usually a series of lines and circles or something similar) with local landmarks - trees, rocks, statues, etc., - and you’ll reveal the hidden location of the buried Mayan Stele. Collect them all for a reward! This page will guide you to every Mayan Stelae in the game, complete with map markers to help remove any ambiguity!

You’ll solve the Mayan Stelae puzzle on Great Inagua at James Kidd’s request - consider this a tutorial.
Finding Mayan Stelae¶
As mentioned in the intro, Mayan Stelae all follow the same formulate: Get on the tallest totem and line up an outline with some objects nearby (they’ll be glowing white, so it’s not very ambiguous!) to mark the location of the buried Mayan Stele. You cannot start finding these until you complete the main quest This Old Cove, where James Kidd will guide you through the first one on Great Inagua. This one’s a freebie, but the others you’ll have to seek out and solve on your own. Theirs locations are as follows:

Progression-Locked Mayan Stelae¶
You can get most of the Mayan Stelae as soon as you have the freedom to explore the Caribbean with the Jackdaw. For sake of argument, let’s say around when the main quest This Old Cove ends. Some, however, require a bit more work on your part, and are gated behind even further main quest progression. These include the following Mayan Stelae:

The lone Mayan Stelae on Tulum, which you’ll visit during the main quest Nothing is True.

Isla Providencia has two Mayan Stelae you can grab, one to the north and another to the south. You’ll visit this location during the main quest Marooned and can return later if you need to do any cleanup.

Finally there’s the Mayan Stelae on Long Bay, a late-game location you’ll visit during the main quest The Observatory, ensuring that you won’t be completing this side quest until near the end of the game.
Since you’ll be knee-deep in some main quest or another when you first arrive at these locations, you’ll probably have to finish the main quest at hand before you can actually solve the Mayan Stelae puzzle at these locations, and in the case of the one on Long Bay, you may be stuck doing several quests until you’ve got the freedom to return. Don’t worry, though, none of these should be missable and you can complete your collection when the quest Everything is Permitted… is available.

Mayan Stalae Rewards¶
When you have all 16 Mayan Stelae, return to the ruins on Tulum and install all the Stelae into the socketed door to open a deeper part of the ruins. You’ll need to do some (rather easy) platforming to reach the chamber on the far end of the chamber, and when you do you can claim your reward: the Mayan Outfit, which is purely cosmetic, and the Yax Tun Pendant, which promises to absorb gunshots.
