Digestion Adaptation - How to Eat Food
Rooms, Power and Storage
To survive for any length of time you’ll need to get the Digestion Adaptation, which will allow you to derive sustenance from the local flora and fauna. If you want to explore past the first biome, however, you’ll also need to find a way to endure the otherwise intolerably hot waters east of the Lifepod. This page will cover to how to acquire the Heat Tolerance adaptation in Subnautica 2!

In the first biome you can find some Angel Combs languishing under the thrall of parasitic infection.
How to Find the Heat Tolerance Angel Comb¶
You should have noticed the trend by now - we’ve encountered two Angel Combs on this planet, once in the prologue, where we gained the Pressure Tolerance adaptation and a second time about 150 meters north, northeast of the Lifepod, where you obtained the Digestion adaptation. Simply put, Angel Combs give you adaptations, and adaptations are good for your long-term survival prospects. If you ever find your progress barred in Subnautica 2, it’s probably because you either don’t have the right tool, equipment, vehicle or adaptation to advance!
Another Angel Comb can be found around in a cave 200 meters west, northwest of the Lifepod, but earning a new adaptation from this one isn’t as simple as reaching out and touching it, as the Angel Comb is currently dealing with some sort of parasitic, viral infections. In order to restore the Angel Comb to a healthy enough state to be of use to you, you need to clear the infection by destroying some cankers growling along the plant with your Sonic Resonator. If you don’t have this tool yet, check out the linked page - you cannot remove the cankers without it
Seek out viral cankers on the Angel Combs and disperse them with your Sonic Resonator,
just be wary of the hostile fauna, who seems to rather like their viral habitat!
Cleansing the Infected Angel Comb¶
Before you can clear the main Angel Comb, however, you’ll need to find smaller Angel Combs nearby and cleanse them. You can find one of these two subordinate Angel Combs by following a root to the north, northeast and another root to the southwest. These two Angel Combs are 250 meters north, northwest of the Lifepod and 230 meters west, southwest, respectively, with the latter being directly under the Spide Dome point of interest.
Look out for four-leafed growths on the Angel Comb with bluish pod-clusters in the middle of them and destroy them with the Sonic Resonator. You can tackle these two Angel Combs in any order you wish and take your time hunting down viral growths on them - no need to clear everything in one dive. In addition to managing your oxygen levels, you’ll also need to be wary of hostile fauna, including Bloom Parasites and perhaps the odd Hammerhead, Marrowbreach and Nibbler Mango. Best to bring a spare battery or two (you’ll need to use your Sonic Resonator a few times between all three Angel Comb sites, and the Wakemaker will help you get around faster) and a few Basic First Aid Kits to heal damage you may sustain during your endeavors.
Follow roots from the main Angel Comb to find smaller ones, which must be cleared first,
then return to and cleanse the central Angel Comb to get the Heat Tolerance adaptation.
Once you’ve removed the several cysts at each smaller Angel Comb, return back up the roots to the central one and repeat the process there. Clear out all the cankers on the Angel Combs and the main plant will open up, revealing its juicy alien core. Touch it for a little bit of gene transfer and you’ll find yourself endowed with the Heat Tolerance adaptation!
This adaptation will allow you to endure temperatures of up to 120 Celsius - you’d have to get pretty close to a geothermal vent to get hotter than that!
Heat Tolerance Adaptation Effects¶
Like it says on the tin, this adaptation will grant you an enhanced tolerance to heat. If you explored too far east, you’d have noticed a change in the water’s color and the appearance of the water’s temperature being displayed in celsius. This appears at around 30 degrees, which is not yet dangerous, but the ambient temperature of the geothermal vents area is 85 degrees, which certainly is dangerous without this adaptation. Closer to the geothermal vents themselves and other sources of extreme heat, the temperature will rise further still, but you’re protected to around 120 degrees (although you’ll get a warning any time you’re over 100 degrees), past which point you’ll start taking damage.
All in all, this is a pretty generous adaptation, as you’d basically need to get within arm’s reach of lava to sustain damage! Perfect for exploring the geothermal vent biome to the east.
