Lead is an odd mineral in Subnautica 2. It’s fairly uncommon, but where it spawns it tends to appear in great quantities, and it’s used in very few recipes early on, including the Sonic Resonator, Power Storage and Germanium. Of these you likely are only going to have a great need for a Sonic Resonator, so any Lead you do find you’re likely to keep. Still, getting that first bit of lead can be a nuisance, and since there’s a lot of resources you’ll gain access to when you get a Sonic Resonator, it’s worth pointing out where you can find it. This page will point out some Lead locations in the first biome in Subnautica 2.

Page Breakdown

How to Find Lead

Lead is a purplish mineral deposit that structurally looks a lot like Titanium, and like Titanium, it can often be found on the sea floor, rather than primarily lurking around in caves like Copper and Silver. The purple hue of this metal should make it stand out and render it easy to distinguish at a distance, unlike Quartz, Titanium and Silver, which can all at a glance look somewhat similar.

You can find Lead in abundance near a Cicada wreckage east of Camp One, south of the Lifepod - most of which is tied up in large deposits.

Ironically, one of the few things you need Lead for in the early-game is the Sonic Resonator.

Cicada Wreck Past Camp One

Straddling the line between a low-tier mineral and a mid-tier mineral, Lead is typically only found in any great quantity a ways away from the Lifepod. Once again, Camp One is a good landmark that divides the nearer part of the first biome from the further reaches, so be prepared for a bit of a swim!

Fortunately Lead has a pretty convenient landmark that’ll help guide you to where it can be found. 390 meters northeast of the Lifepod, 70 meters or so under water (around 150 meters east of Camp One), you’ll find a massive section of Cicada wreckage. Lead can be found in great quantities on the sea floor near this wreckage, just search the environs around the wreck and follow a current northeast from said wreck, as the Lead deposits tend to run a ways in that direction.

Much of the Lead can only be found in larger deposits, which ironically require a Sonic Resonator to harvest. Still, keep your eye out and search the area and you should find plenty of smaller deposits you can break up with the Survival Multitool or simply pick up by hand. Once you’ve got a bit of Lead and have crafted the Sonic Resonator, you can return to the Lead-polluted floor near the Cicada wreck to gather all the Lead you could reasonably need for… well, quite a while. Probably more than enough to cover your needs for the early access portion of the game!
