How to Find Resources - Scanner Station
How to Craft Ingots - Processor
Tools (not to be confused with equipment) are a broad category of items in Subnautica 2 that can be assigned to the tool bar at the bottom of the screen and employed to achieve various effects: the Survival Multitool will allow you to harvest tougher materials, the Flashlight illuminates the area, the Habitat Builder allows you to build, the Air Bladder gives you quick egress to the surface, the Wakemaker allows you to move underwater faster, and the Scanner… well, scans. All useful, if not indispensable tools for progressing through the game!
Simply put, tools are super useful, and if you’re struggling with any aspect of the game, it’s probably because you need to create or upgrade some tool or piece of equipment… or make use of your tools more. While equipment is generally a one-and-done affair, tools are a bit more maintenance, as many of them require energy to operate. Where does this energy come from in what’s primarily an underwater adventure? Batteries, or course! Much more convenient and realistic than running cables everywhere! The downside with batteries? They run out of juice, and early on this can be a nuisance that discourages you from making use of some tools as much as you might need to. Who wants to keep crafting new batteries every time one runs dry, after all? Enter the Battery Terminal, which allows you to recharge spent batteries passively and by extension, to make use of your tools more frequently! This page will discuss where to find blueprints for the Battery Terminal, how to craft it, and how to use it to recharge batteries in Subnautica 2!

Find Battery Terminal Blueprints¶
You should know how this works by now - to get the recipe for the Battery Terminal you’ll need to find Battery Terminals in wreckages, ruins and other abandoned areas and scan them. Needless to say, you’ll need a Scanner for this. Learning the Battery Terminal recipe takes two unique scans, and fortunately we know of at least three in the first biome:
Find some ruins 200 meters west of the Lifepod,
use the Sonic Resonator to clear some fungal barriers, then scan the Battery Terminal on the wall.
- 200 meters west of the Lifepod you’ll find some ruins, about 30 meters under the surface. You need the Sonic Resonator to dislodge some fungal growths over the entrances, but once inside you can find a Battery Terminal on the wall near a door.
A large section of ship can be found 250 meters south of the Lifepod - find a doorway along the southern edge of the ruins,
then swim inside, down a hole in the floor and search the corner of the room you’re in to find Battery Terminal.
- 250 meters south of the Lifepod, about 80 meters underwater you’ll find a section of ship. Circle around to the southern edge of the ship to find a door you can swim through, go through a door to the left (northwest) and descend down a hole in the floor, then search a panel along the northwestern corner to find this Battery Terminal. It seems to be clipping behind the wall decoration, but if you look close you’ll find it.
You can also find a Battery Terminal on the wall of the Old Habitat ruins.
A second Battery Terminal can also be found in the Old Habitat, up a ladder and in the corner.
-
If the last Battery Terminal seemed a little sus, don’t worry, we’ve got a spare - head to the Old Habitat around 400 meters north of the Life Pod (around 50 meters under the surface) to find two hab structures. Swim into the northeastern of the two hab structures, find a tube running southwest to the other hab and search the wall to the right to find a Battery Terminal on the wall, framed by yellow tubes.
-
Should that still prove insufficient, good news! There’s a second Battery Terminal in the Old Habitat. Swim up the ladder opposite the tube you could cross to reach the other hab structure (northeast of the tube) and search the corner to the west, northwest to find another Battery Terminal on the wall.
(1 of 3) Build Battery Terminals on the interior walls of bases using common materials.
Recharging Batteries¶
Once you’ve scanned at least two Battery Terminals, you’ll be free to build one at a base. It must be built in an interior wall and requires 2x Titanium, 2x Quartz and 1x Copper Wire (which in turn just requires 2x Copper to fabricate). While Battery Terminals require a negligible amount of power to install, actively recharging a battery will consume one unit of power, so keep this in mind, especially if you have several batteries to charge.
To charge a battery, you’ll first need to remove it from whatever device drained it, which you can do by selecting the tool via your toolbar and pressing . Every tool you craft comes with a battery in it, fully charged and ready to go, but you can craft more Basic Batteries at a Fabricator (2x Copper, 1x Acidic Raion Pouch). Once you’ve got an empty battery in your inventory, just interact with a Battery Terminal and dump the diminished battery inside. Note the “Enabled/Disabled” text on the front of the Battery Terminal - you can click this to toggle the Battery Terminal on and off, if you need to, say, free up some power for whatever reason. One Battery Terminal can charge six batteries at a time.
Just swap out spent batteries and collect charged ones every time you return to base and you’ll be free to use your tools as much as you care to, especially if you craft some extra batteries to swap in and out as needed. Crafting tools allows you to make use of them, but a Battery Terminal and 2-3 spare batteries grants you the luxury or using your tools without reservation!
