How to Get the Repair Tool
Digestion Adaptation - How to Eat Food
Swimming around under your own power is… well, a handicap we’ll just have to endure at the start of the game. Expanding your oxygen supply is obviously a need, but increasing your speed underwater will further increase your range, and the Wakemaker tool is one way of doing exactly that. These handheld little jets will give you a slight boost to speed and can also serve as a Flashlight, making that core bit of kit redundant, and while your moderate-term goal should be to craft a Tadpole for long distance travel, it’s no substitute for general scouting and cave exploration. This page will discuss how to obtain the recipe for, craft, and use the Wakemaker in Subnautica 2!
Page Breakdown¶
(1 of 4) You can find a Wakemaker scan near a crate 95 meters north, northwest of the Lifepod,
Find Wakemaker Blueprints¶
You will need to scan three defunct Wakemakers to get enough information to build your own, and like most tools and facilities, these can often be found in submerged ruins, either of habitats built - and later abandoned by - previous explorers or in wrecked segments of the Cicada. You will, of course, need to craft the Scanner to scan any Wakemakers you find. Some locations for these Wakemaker scans you need to collect can be found below:
-
One of the easiest scans in the game to get, you’ll find a Wakemaker fragment in a crate on the seafloor about 95 meters north, northwest of the Lifepod, around 20 meters under the water.
-
Another scan relatively close to the Lifepod, although it involves some spelunking. From the Lifepod, swim about 90 meters east, northeast (around 60 degrees on the compass) to find a downward current in the midst of some coral. This will take you down into an underwater cave complex (the same one that houses Colonist’s Bunker (Anita’s Garden). After taking the current down into the cave, swim east, northeast (again, about 60 degrees) and you’ll find a platform. This Wakemaker is in a crate on the platform.
-
Look for a platform on the seabed 215 meters north, northeast of the Lifepod, just a short distance away from the Angel Comb that grants you the Digestion Adaptation. This Wakemaker fragment is in a crate on the platform, which is about 35 meters below the surface.
-
This scan can be found around 275 meters west, southwest of the Lifepod, on the sea floor (25~ meters below the surface) between three crates. Unlike most scannable tools or facilities, it’s not really part of any large wreckage, but it is west, northwest of the Spider Dome point of interest, which should make it somewhat easier to locate.
The Old Habitat houses two Wakemaker scans - one in a corner near a tube,
and another on some shelves up a ladder.
- There are TWO Wakemaker scans you can get in the Old Habitat, where you’ll be directed to eventually in your search for lost Black Boxes. Objective or not, you can go there any time - it’s about 390 meters north of the Lifepod, roughly 50 meters underwater. Find the first scan in the southern corner of the room with the tube connecting the two halves of the habitat together (the corner right next to the tube), while to find the second you’ll need to swim down the tube to the southwest, swim up a ladder, then search some selves along the southeastern end of the room to find the second Wakemaker scan on one of said shelves.
You’ll need a proper Fabricator to craft the Wakemaker.
Crafting a Wakemaker¶
While there are scans all over the place for the Wakemaker - many very close to the Lifepod - crafting this mobility aid is a bit more work. First note that you must have your own base to craft the Wakemaker, as the Fabricator on the Lifepod is not sufficient for your needs… not just the Wakemaker itself, but several of its components must be created at a full Fabricator, which can only be accessed when you create one in your base, which you must also build.
Once that’s out of the way, you will need the following materials: 1x Silver, 1x Wiring Kit, 1x Grease, 1x Basic Battery. Three of these have to be crafted, themselves: the Wiring Kit requires 1x Silver and 1x Copper Wire, the Grease is created from 1x Lucifer Rotsac, and the Basic Battery needs 2x Copper, 1x Acidic Raion Pouch. Most of these are easily found, but Silver is a bit less common around the Lifepod, requiring you to travel a fair distance (although still within the first biome) to find. Check out the Silver Locations page to find reliably sources of Silver, but the caves near (read: under) Camp One are a fine source for early-game Silver.
Once created, just equip them to enjoy greater movement speed, and the built-in flashlight makes it a great exploration accessory.
Using the Wakemaker¶
Once you have crafted a Wakemaker, make sure it’s in the tool bar like any other tool and select it. While selected you’ll hold these little jets in your hands, propelling yourself at a greater rate while moving underwater. Simple enough. To engage the built-in lights, just press , making the Flashlight rather redundant. Just keep in mind that the Wakemaker consumes its battery at a pretty quick rate. If you don’t have a Battery Terminal yet… well, you might not want to use the Wakemaker until you do. At the very least, consider swimming to your destination without the Wakemaker, then use the Wakemaker only when you’re going to be away from the surface for an extended period of time - ideal for spelunking or deep dives. Once you have the Battery Terminal, consider bringing along a spare battery or two just to ensure you don’t run out of juice for your Wakemaker while exploring!
