An honest-to-goodness midtier metal, Lithium is quite scarce in the first biome, generally only appearing in number later on in the game… which perhaps isn’t the worst thing in the world, since it is currently only used to forge Plasteel Ingots, which in turn is only used in the recipes for the High Capacity Air Tank and the Scout Ray Chasis for the Tadpole. While there aren’t a lot of these recipes that require Lithium, both are rather useful, especially the High Capacity Air Tank, and this page will help you find Lithium in Subnautica 2!

Lithium’s primary use is as a component in Plasteel Ingots,
which in turn are required to craft the High Capacity Oxygen Tank.
How to Find Lithium¶
Lithium is an orangish mineral that lacks the sharp edges of Copper, Titanium and Silver. It somewhat resembles Copper at a glance - and like Copper, Lithium tends to be found in caves - but the shape should give it away. It’s also worth noting that Lithium tends to only spawn in larger deposits that require the Sonic Resonator to harvest, so don’t go searching for Lithium unprepared!
Find a Cicada wreckage southwest of the Lifepod,
and search a table on the seafloor nearby to find a Lithium deposit.
Great Jaw¶
Like Copper, Lead tends to live inside of caves, and it’s much more common in the geothermal vents biome than the other two, being especially abundant in the Hot Caves. You probably don’t want to wait that long to get your hands on this metal, however, as the High Capacity Air Tank is a great boon, and the sooner you get it, the easier it’ll be to explore.
Fortunately you’re in luck, as there are some deposits of Lithium in the first biome, if you’re willing to swim for it… and perhaps risk dying a terrible death. Around 280 meters south, southwest of the Lifepod (210 degrees), roughly 80 meters under the surface you’ll find a crashed Cicada wreckage. Quite loot-worthy and also close to the Colonist Bunker (Unauthorized NOA Modification), but that’s not our purpose here. Instead, you can find an alien table on the sea floor east, southeast of here (105 degrees) with a chunk of Lithium on it.
This should be enough to get you the Lithium you need to craft the High Capacity Air Tank, but if not, you can find more nearby. Just southeast of this first bit of Lithium (150 degrees) you’ll find a “Great Jaw”, a massive bivalve with a tempting core that contains Lithium (as well as two scans for the Portable Oxygen Generator. This core is almost completely inaccessible, with just a few holes on its surface allowing ingress, but there are also fleshy tendrils around the core that, if triggered, will cause the Great Jaw to close. It’s slow, but you don’t want to be inside when it closes, so move slowly to avoid the tendrils and get at that juicy Lithium inside. There’s an Oxygen Tunic outside that’ll give you air refills, but this is ironically a task easier to complete after you’ve increased your oxygen reserves.
Lithium can also be found in caves in the geothermal vents biome,
including in the story significant Hot Caves.
Hot Caves¶
Another dive that’s easier to complete after you already have obtained Lithium can be found in the second biome, the geothermal vents east of the Lifepod. Note that you need the Heat Tolerance Adaptation to endure the high water temperatures here. You also might want to get a [Tadpole], as it’ll give you a vehicle that’ll allow you to explore the greater depths more easily - a mobile source of breathable oxygen is very handy!
Once you’ve made those preparations, you’ll want to look for the “Hot Caves” in the center of the biome, which is roughly 530 meters east, southeast of the Lifepod. Before going here. There are numerous entrances to the Hot Caves - these directions just refer to a cluster of four on the seafloor in the middle of an abandoned alien village (this is roughly 250 meters southwest of the Tadpole Pens, a story-significant area that leads you to the Hot Caves). It’s also worth noting that Lithium isn’t exclusive to the Hot Caves in this biome - just about any cave in this area might be housing Lithium. Explore the Hot Caves (or any caves in this biome, really) with your Tadpole and you’re bound to come across numerous Lithium deposits, along with Copper and [Gold].
