Magicka is a useful resource in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, fueling the player’s spells. If you want to cast anything, from offensive spells, buffs, debuffs, summons, healing… you name it, it all consumes Magicka. Normally Magicka replenishes on its own, but sometimes the player will need to expedite the process, and one way of doing so is via the use of Ayleid Wells. This guide will cover how Ayleid Wells work in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, the best scenarios in which to use them, and where they’re located.

Ayleid Wells Use and Effects¶

Across the wilderness of Cyrodiil you’ll find various ruins, caves and dungeons of other descriptions, but one of the more common features you’ll encounter are elven ruins. Some of these ruins - sometimes found near proper, explorable dungeons or alone - feature wells of bluish energy, and if you interact with them you will enjoy a variety of benefits. Using one of these Ayleid Wells will instantly recover 400 Magicka (more than most characters will ever possess without very specific race, birthsign and gear choices) and grant a temporary “Foritfy Magicka 50pts” buff for 300 seconds. This will in almost all cases fully replenish your Magicka and give you a nice, long-lasting boost for future spell-casting, making it a fair boon for most characters and in some cases, a vital resource.

Players with the Atronach birthsign arguably benefit more than most from Ayleid Well, especially early in their adventures. The Atronach gives you some hefty boons, like 50% Spell Absorption and a whopping Fortify Magicka +150, but at the crippling cost of preventing all normal Magicka regeneration. Instead of just waiting to recover spent Magicka, players with the Atronach sign will generally regain Magicka by absorbing enemy spells or using Magicka potions, which can be dangerous, time-consuming and expensive endeavors not well-suited for the capabilities of a low-level character. Ayleid Wells function as replenishing Magicka pools that can help mitigate the Atronach’s weakness until the player has more resources at their disposal.

There are a fair number of Ayleid Wells scattered throughout Cyrodiil, so you’re rarely terribly far from one, but that doesn’t mean they’re always conveniently located (say if you’re in a dungeon, for example) and they take a full day to recharge.
