The Horror of Dive Rock is a quest in the Jerall Mountains in Oblivion Remastered, but finding and starting it isn’t immediately obvious since it won’t appear in your journal. The first hint towards the quest can be found in a letter on Andre Labouche’s body. You’ll need to find and read Agnar’s Journal, and then locate and destroy the Udyrfrykte Matron before looting the corpse to obtain the Frostwyrm Bow. This will tell you all you need to know about Agnar’s fate.
How to find Agnar’s Journal¶
Agnar’s Journal
At Dive Rock, near the top of the mountain next to a campfire, Agnar’s Journal can be found. It tells about Agnar the Unwavering, and how he became the chieftain of Thirsk Mead Hall on Solstheim. He went on to marry Svenja Snow-Song after another chieftain had killed the Udyrfrykte.
Agnar’s Journal
Svenja, still haunted by Udyrfrykte’s memory, set off with Agnar to Dive Rock to attempt to slay the Udyrfrykte Matron, but their attack was not a success. Agnar the Unwavering went against his name, wavered, and fled the area after his wife’s death.
How to find and kill the Udyrfrykte Matron¶
Agnar’s Body
Going southeast from Dive Rock, you’ll find Agnar’s body on a patch of snow near a rock. Looting the body will get you some fur armor, a silver war axe, and some gold.
The Udyrfrykte Matron hasn’t strayed far from the area, and can be found either near the same rock, or within the nearby trees. She can appear almost invisible, with a blue aura around her. Use the zoom on your bow to spot her easier, or use a Detect Life spell. A common bug means the blue aura sometimes doesn’t show up, so it might be necessary to use other means to find her.
The Udyrfrykte Matron
From reading Agnar’s Journal, we know that the best way to attack is using fire, while frost attacks won’t be effective. Normal weapons will work if you’re willing to chip away slowly at the Udyrfrykte Matron’s health.
Looting the Udyrfrykte Matron
If you kill the Udyrfrykte Matron at the cliff edge and she falls down, it may be impossible to find the body to loot afterwards, so try to entice her onto more solid ground when her health is low. Looting the corpse will get you Svenja’s Frostwyrm Bow, as well as her fur clothes and bones.
