The Shivering Isles is one of the two main DLCs for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, and it’s included with the base game. While it might be a good idea to wait to go there, you can visit The Shivering Isles as soon as you exit the sewer at the beginning of the game. This page will detail where to find The Shivering Isles and how to enter it.

The Shivering Isles DLC Location

As mentioned above, you will be able to access The Shivering Isles as soon as you leave the sewers in the prologue and gain access to the open world. After exiting the sewers, you will be right outside of the Imperial City. Despite a lot of open world games requiring you to discover a location in order to do anything there, Oblivion grants you access to a number of its cities right from the start. This will allow you to freely fast travel to them from exiting the sewers, which helps a lot in reaching this DLC.

(1 of 2) Just east of Bravil, in Niden Bay, will be a small unmarked island.

Once you’re in the open world, open your map and look southeast of the Imperial City to find Bravil. This city is located on Niben Bay and that’s where you want to go, so fast travel to the Bay Roan Stables right outside of the city. From there, venture east to the large body of water and look for the small island with a face-shaped rock on it. That will be the doorway to The Shivering Isles, so swim out to it to discover the Strange Door location. As you approach it, you will automatically receive a new quest, A Door in Niben Bay.

A Door in Niben Bay Walkthrough

Go up to the front of the Strange Door to see two NPCs, Gaius Prentus and S’fara. Head to the former to talk to him, during which, someone will come out of the portal. Note that this might initiate automatically as you get close enough to Gaius, so you might not need to speak with him. This NPC, named Belmyne Dreleth, will be speaking some nonsense, then start attacking everyone in the vicinity. Thankfully, you don’t have to do much of anything, as Gaius will kill the poor soul.

Gaius will talk with you after, so exhaust his dialog and listen for some unknown entity to speak to you. At this point, you should be able to interact with the portal and choose to enter it, but if not, then simply wait another minute or so until you can. Upon entering the actual portal, you will appear in what looks like a normal room, with a desk in front of you, and someone named Haskill sitting in the chair opposite an empty chair. Go ahead and sit down in the chair, then talk with Haskill.

(1 of 5) As you approach the guard and the portal, someone will come out.

Feel free to go through all of the dialog here, with Haskill introducing himself as the Chamberlain to Lord Sheogorath. Once you’re done with all of the dialog, speak to him again and choose to go through the door behind him. He talks about the Gate of Madness, as well as warns you about the Gatekeeper. You will stay seated and Haskill will exit through the door. You seem stuck to your seat and can’t move, but waiting a tiny bit will have the room you were in burst into a bunch of butterflies, as you’re transported to completely different area.

You are now in The Shivering Isles, which will end the quest, A Door in Niben Bay, and start the next one for the DLC, called Through the Fringe of Madness.
