Snowy Death Mountain (West)

By

We’ve purposely left this area last, not because it’s tough, but because it’s long. Before trekking to the dungeon itself, let’s tour the nearby area. If you’ve been following the dungeon order in this guide and you’ve been diligently collecting all the items, you may just find the last Maimais and Pieces of Heart to complete your collection. While in Hyrule, warp to Death Mountain; from the weather vane, merge into the wall above and walk left towards the doorway to Lorule.

In Lorule, don’t emerge just yet; continue left to find a ledge with a single skull–smash the skull to reveal a Maimai #95 . Now drop down from the ledge and head down. Be wary of the Snow Hinox guarding their turf. Drop down again to find a cave with fairies insides. From the cave, follow the path all the way right and exit the screen to the right. Here, there are two big rocks ahead; lift the top-most rock to Maimai #96 . To the right is a broken bridge with no way of crossing right.

Head back left to the previous screen. This time make your way right, keeping to the path above. At the end, climb the long flight of stairs up, then turn right. You’ll soon come across a peculiar pattern on the floor, which resembles a mask or pair of goggles.

Head right from this pattern to find another pattern–a large ring with a small circle in the middle–with gargoyle statues in the corner and a giant gargoyle in the middle. Get close and the Giant Ice Gimos will awaken and stomp around–wait for it to land, then melt it with the Fire Rod.

Next, the four Ice Gimos will awaken too–if you can melt the big one with the Fire Rod, these guys should be no problem. Once all the fiends are gone, a chest will appear in the middle of the pattern, containing 100 rupees . Having claimed the treasure, head left, back to the mask-shaped pattern.

Then head up the stairs, to the top of the hill. Make your way to the top-right corner, where a weather vane and a bridge to a sinister tower awaits–here, you can play the Treacherous Tower mini-game, in which you must defeat floors upon floors of monsters.

$$$item 3958

Head left from the bridge to find a narrow passageway. Pound the stumps to pass; at the end, lift the big rock to find Maimai #97 . Return to the bridge and head down, then drop down the cliff edge. Below, continue down, past the ring pattern and drop down again, this time to a small ledge. From here, merge into the wall above and walk left. As soon as you see a ledge below, emerge to drop down, where there’s a chest containing one Monster Tail .
