Thieves' Town

By

Welcome to Lorule’s version of Kakariko Village. To reach here, just go one screen left of the Blacksmith’s house. Unlike its Hyrule counterpart, there are monsters prowling around (Moblins and Hyus) so keep vigilant as you explore. It is also the location of the Thieves’ Hideout dungeon, which we will tackle next. Before that, the tourist sights!

From the entrance, via the Blacksmith’s, dash at the tree just ahead to dislodge Maimai #64 . Go left to find the Milk Bar, run by a lookalike of Ingo from Ocarina of Time–a foul man who doesn’t sell milk; how sad. Speak to the Bard to learn a bit about the town. Outside and to the left are a bunch of juicy rupees; merge through the gap in the north-facing wall to grab them.

Further left is a ruined house with Maimai #65 stuck on the wall–emerge behind it to get it off. Head up to find the village’s Masked Elder, plus a weather vane. Up from him is the Item Seller. Inside you can buy some items for your Bottle (including a Golden Bee for a wallet-busting 9999 rupees ) or a Shield; speak to the freaky Bag Guy for more information about the town. Outside again, head right and you’ll find the hideout entrance; ignore it for now.

Why the heck would you buy the Golden Bee for 9999 rupees? To empty your pockets of course! Once you have 9999 rupees and obtained everything in the game, you can buy the Golden Bee to set your rupee count to zero, so you can collect more rupees (for example, from Treacherous Tower or StreetPass). Why would you want more rupees? There’s a rupee counter at the end of the game, which counts up to 99,999 rupees.

Make your way down from the hideout entrance and you’ll find a house; inside, speak to the Veteran Thief to pilfer some information. Right from the Veteran Thief’s house is Lorule’s version of Fortune Choice. Here, you can pay 200 rupees for a chance to pick 3 out of 15 chests and win some great and not-so-great prizes. One of the prizes is a Piece of Heart ; if you have the rupees, keep playing until you get it. …And that’s everything there is to see inside the town, for now anyway.

Oh, wait, there is one more thing. From the weather vane, go right and then down to find a doorway to Hyrule inside a ruined house. Go through and emerge to find yourself in a rather… peculiar location. Head down and then right and you’ll receive a Piece of Heart like… no… other. Additionally, the door will no longer be locked, so you can use this location to move between Hyrule and Lorule should you desire. Either way, return through the gap to Lorule.

When you’re ready, return to the hideout entrance and press A in front of the closed door to the left. Provide the correct answers and you can go inside. If you’ve been listening to the town’s friendly inhabitants, the answers should be familiar. In any case, the answers are “a narrow path”, “really despair” and “to thievin’!”.

To be honest; you could probably guess these yourself without speaking to anybody in town; talk about an “ultra secret” password! Go inside the newly opened door to proceed into the Thieves’ Hideout.
