Attack a tree to obtain lumber.
Upgrading your axe will yield rarer lumber.
The axe is used to cut down trees in the Great Forest. You will receive one during Main Quest 2. Simply attack a highlighted tree to obtain lumber from it.
To upgrade your axe, you must build/upgrade the Tool Shop, which is possible after completing the Profit Chasing quest (available from Main Quest 7).
As you upgrade the axe, you have a chance of obtaining rarer lumber from trees.
